A Boeing 777 passenger jetliner bound from Seoul, South Korea, crashed and caught fire while landing at San Francisco International Airport at about 11:30 Saturday.
The plane, Asiana Flight 214, came to rest on the side of the runway. The airport remains closed to all traffic and emergency teams are on the scene.

Fox does not report any fatalities so far. Praying all have survived.
Yeah, a ‘cartwheel’ is what United 232 did, full end over end. If this did that it sure held together well.
Landed short of displaced area that is short of the runway threshold. Pilot tried to pull up rather than add power. Airplane stalled, tail dropped and hit the bank prior to displaced area. Tail separated from aircraft. Pilot no longer had any control. Plan skidded of runway. My opinion? Pilot error!

Passenger David Eun tweeted a picture of people jumping out of the plane and wrote: “I just crash landed at SFO. Tail ripped off. Most everyone seems fine. I’m ok. Surreal...”
Mr Eun, who describes himself as a “digital media guy” and “frequent flier”, added: “Fire and rescue people all over the place. They’re evacuating the injured. Haven’t felt this way since 9/11.”
A witness to the crash, Ki Siadatan, said the plane “looked out of control” as it came in to land.
“We heard a ‘boom’ and saw the plane disappear into a cloud of dust and smoke,” he told the BBC. “There was then a second explosion.”
He saw events unfold from the balcony of his home in the Millberry area of San Francisco, which overlooks the airport.

“come up through the fuselage”
Maybe the Nose wheel but aren’t most landing gears under
and in the wings?
Groundlooped?
Mike
At first they said it was a cargo plane.
they may start out there...*smiles*
Aliens.
And they don’t want to build a pipeline because it is too dangerous, but Buffett’s oil carrying trains are not!!!!!
Not to be picky, but I believe the correct term is “originating from”, not “bound from.” In the first paragraph, I mean.
Local Fox TV station has 2 confirmed dead..
dozens injured.
Probably less than 5% fuel capacity remaining after the long trans-Pacific flight..which was a blessing..
Pilot error if as you described. Basic MCA (Minimum controllable airspeed):
Elevator controls pitch
Power controls altitude/rate-of-descent.
Looks like the debris field starts prior to the runway, so this guy hit way early. Most likely one of two things; lost an engine on short final and couldn’t compensate quickly enough (might have required a flap change for drag), or he was dragging it in and dragged it a bit too low. That would be exceptionally bad since typed aircraft aren’t supposed to fly glide slopes that have them touching down short of the touch down zone.
This is a direct flight, long..12 hours? is there a relief crew on board?
2 dead, 61 injured ,, KTVU 2
Your experience in the back doesn’t always correspond to safety in the front. KAL has very nice service, but their pilots have some issues.
