I don’t work for DOD directly. I work for Northrop Grumman on the Barry Goldwater Tactical Bombing Range in SW AZ. The govt shut the range down on the 28th of June. We go back to work on Monday. Shutting the range down for 9 days in a row means we won’t have to play the every other Friday off game.
We were allowed to use our Sick days or vacation time to keep getting paid during this time. We are the lucky ones in the Defense Industry. I know other contractors at the Yuma Army Proving Ground and MCAS Yuma whose companies are not allowing them to use vacation or sick time. They just have to eat it.

we were NOT allowed to use any leave for furlough days. cept maybe sick leave.. so we still get our PAID annual leave . crazy.!!

I wont name my agency but only about 40+% were furloughed according to an arbitrary military or civilian “classification” system that everyone is assigned when hired.

My duties are 90% civilian related but i am classed as ‘military’ and got furloughed 11 days. We could get no $$cut amount desired— from Hagel, in order for us to come back and request ALL get furloughed half the days.

I heard AF and Navy did not do furloughs because they cut programs, but Hagel would not allow such in Army agencies.
Set me straight if this is not factual ......
