In a perfect world, you are correct.
Of course some choose to be single parents. That is not always the case.
I think back about my Mom who was left with 3 kids. Not her choice. She worked two jobs for years just to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads..and not a very fancy roof, lol.
I was able to help her with my knuckleheaded brothers and when I was old enough to work...financially. But she was still stretched very thin. It’s not always a choice.
When you make it be about your own mother, you effectively make it impossible to answer without being insulting.
