After a one-day break for the Fourth of July holiday, the mothers of George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin both testified that the screaming heard in the background of a 911 call was their respective son.
The state rested its case against Zimmerman on Friday after testimony earlier in the day from Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton. The defense, meanwhile, started its case by calling Zimmerman's mother, Gladys Zimmerman.
Gladys Zimmerman listened to the 911 call and defense attorney Mark O'Mara questioned her about the voice in the background.
"That's my son, George," she said.
O'Mara then asked how she knew whose voice it was on the call.
"Because he's my son," she replied.
Prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda asked Gladys Zimmerman if she heard her son screaming before.
"Not for help," she said, but added that she is "sure that is George's voice."(continued)

Mebbe they wuz screamin’ in perfect harmony, like ebony and ivory.
What is scary about this trial is, if they convict Zimmerman, what precedent will be set?
In a gated community, a neighborhood watch volunteer spots a suspiciously acting person and calls the police.
While trying to keep him in sight, the person surprises and attacks you.
IT IS YOUR FAULT AND YOU CANNOT DEFEND YOURSELF!
This case is wrong on so many levels.
I wasn’t even there and I’m willing to swear that the screaming voice is Zimmerman’s ... I would be just as credible as Mama Trayvon ... after all, what is she going to say ... no, I think that is Zimmerman’s voice?
Considering the potential payout for film and book rights, it is in her best interest to claim she can discern her sons voice on a distorted recording.
I believe every thing she said is prejudicial and should be stricken from the record, however, the jury heard her testimony so little would be gained.
That’s ivory-hispanic to us crackers
why didn’t the jury hear that Skittles wasn’t raised by his birth mother for most of his life?
The defense was smart to put Z’s mother on the stand to testify and end the week/begin the weekend with her voice and testimony in the jury’s ears, countering and neutralizing the sympathy factor toward St Trayvon’s Mother so that it won’t dominate their thoughts over the weekend.
More support for sss.
I have never understood how people on a jury could be so stupid as to have a “sympathy factor” when they are supposed to give merit only to the facts. I mean, other than that juries aren’t the objective fact-sifters that they’re supposed to be. But they should know that that’s their job and their “feelings” don’t matter.
Defense didn’t think it was relevant I guess. Even though the defense could have questioned the mothers ability to recognize her sons voice in a scream if she hadn’t raise him ... good point.
People are people and people have feelings ... both prosecuting and defense attorneys play on human emotion, knowing it is there and can’t be erased.
Traymom tried to work up some tears for her little Benjamin but they just wouldn’t come.
All she could work up were some dagger eyes for West as she thought of all the Benjamins he was costing her.
I am astonished Mama trademarked her own son’s name. Something more going on here: especially with what looks like some scum lawyers representing you.
Neighborhood watch guys will carry surveillance cameras with them. The future (unfortunately) is every decent person will record everything as a defensive measure.
Similar to the liberal factor..
This is an oldie but goodie article:
After watching Zimmerman’s re-enactment and listening to the tape....it sounds alot like Zimmerman to me.
And the muffled nature of the screams fits his story...that Martin was covering his mouth. The Martin crowd says he was screaming in fear because he saw a gun...but that doesn’t make sense...why would his screams get muffled and cut off?
Z’s story matches what we hear...and I think it sounds alot like him. I think the jury will see that too.
The use of neighborhood watch volunteers would be rendered too risky. That is what those robbing homes would want. There would be no stopping them if the neighborhood watch volunteer ended.
I was standing in line in a fast food restaurant and a guy behind me had a motorcycle helmet with a gopro camera on it, turned on. he told me he kept the camera on all the time, and put it in his car when he was driving that instead of his motorcyle. He said that one time he was riding between lanes when a cop came up to him and started screaming at him, accusing him of doing something wrong. The cop stopped and left when he noticed the gopro camera on the guy’s helmet...
I have to agree with you.
Neither “Mom” was there. They should have been character witnesses and nothing more.
Actually, Zimmerman’s uncle was a far more compelling witness, yet isn’t mentioned.
Also unmentioned is the Z family are minorities with accents and lots of Hispanic dignity.
