You are off by a year; it was '68. I remember very well because Nixon sent him!!
You’re right. He was in VN from about late Oct. 1968- early March, 1969. My typo.
Now, I was in Cambodia in November, 1970. The only SVN soldier I saw there was Gen. Cao Tri, ARVN’s top armored commander.
It is really funny. There are mainly Cambodians in Cambodia, something Kerry failed to recognize, unless you include the 6 NVN divisions stationed there for attacks on SVN (1st, 3rd, 5th 6th, 7th & 9th). You won’t read much about the 6th Division until is shows up at An Loc in 1972. I interviewed a couple NVA POWS in Cambodia who identified themselves as being in the 6th PAVN Division. Who knew?
Yeah, LBJ was so tired and wore out he let Richard Nixon run the Viet Nam war on a day-to-day basis. This sometimes caused friction between Nixon and then Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara.
Yeah, that little problem with the date made the tall tale even taller! ... I wonder if he still has "the Hat."
