Hollywood and the news media have too much invested in him, it is impossible for them to admit error, and they have to play out the string. But, from here on out, their guy is on a very short leash, and I suspect that he knows this. This probably means that the supply of available new initiatives to distract from the failure of the old initiatives has dried up. This recent war on coal, which went over like a lead balloon, might be among the last shots.

They do not typically fall apart under pressure, although their need to project blame can make them look paranoid. They are also subject to fits of rage because aggression is the underlying dynamic of narcissism.
It would be misleading however to predict any sort of significant "meltdown." He wouldn't go down without a fight. If Obama found himself in Nixon's shoes in 1974 he would not have resigned but would have fought even if it did grievous harm to the nation.
Having spent time around recovering drug addicts, Obama reminds me of them very much. Most using drug addicts continuously lie. They make jokes of others easily. They will do anything for their next fix.

I totally agree the various initiatives like the war on coal are a distraction from looking back on the failures. Life with my ex was like playing a game of Whack A Mole at the arcade, you strike one and 3 more pop up. These initiatives seem to come up out of nowhere, and if conservative focus is kept on the failures and the new things are not a distraction, Obama will have more speech/press conference breakdowns like has been recently...
