When Islamists in Algeria were denied power in Algeria after winning an election, their reaction was predictable. They waged a violent campaign of civil unrest and terrorism. The Army was forced to secure enclaves and protect the oil and gas facilities. They were able to support themselves and feed the population. However normal life ceased. Algeria remains a bizarre place. Egypt is already destitute and overpopulated. The Brotherhood will not go gently and there will be violence. Egypt without massive aid could never survive prolonged civil strife. The real test for the Egyptian army will not be achieving a coup, but preventing Egypt from suffering Algeria’s fate. Otherwise the West should prepare for hordes of unwanted refugees.

Funny, how Leftists start saying how terrible the Arab Spring is when protestors oust radical and corrupt jihadists from the reigns of power. Egypt’s economy is already a mess and the Muslim Brotherhood wasn’t sharing its foreign aid with the Egyptians. So Obama’s retaliation won’t impact them. If Egypt holds steadfast on cleaning house and a few months later you see its economy improve, this will show the bankruptcy of Obama’s Middle East policy, and you can bet more countries will just ignore Obummer when making important decisions.

I have to disagree with a few things, Don. This isn't a military coup d'etat- that is Muslim Brotherhood (al Ikhwan) talking points that was picked up by most of western media. If you look at leading media in Egypt (al Ahram, Egypt Indpendent, etc), none was calling it a coup. Only Ikhwan media did, and then regrettably the western media did as well. Opposition members stressed it wasn't a coup.

And I doubt that this will be another regime. Unlike the crazy, Islamist nations that the Middle East has become infamous for, Egypt has a lot of secularists from the Mubarak era who absolutely have reject Islamic law. I see a complete possibility of an actual leader being elected to Egypt.
