First and foremost, folks must have situational awareness. Zimmerman had CCW, but he did not have situational awareness. Although it obviously could have been worse, Zimmerman is in a bad spot today because of that.

I agree to that up to a point. But to use James Bond movies as an example, if they were true stories, in most of those movies, a REAL Bond would have been killed probably within the first 30 minutes. His biggest ally is dumb luck.

Likewise with Zimmerman. His MO was to keep an eye on the subject from a safe distance. He thought he had lost the guy and the guy was long gone. He was no longer even keeping his guard up and then, bam, the guy is in his face.

I think that is the first time this happened to him. I think Martin was the type that was destined to be a long tennant of the Graybar hotel and cause others a lot of hurt, but his hubris - and CCW - ended it before he could do any real harm.

I agree and further people need to understand the tactics employed here.

It is the most common tactic for these street thugs to attack from ambush, either from behind or talking while advancing and then sucker punch you while you are responding.

That’s what happened to Zimmerman and he was combat ineffective for much of the struggle.

So, I urge everyone to adopt a new habit, some of which you already if you are shooters. If one of these idiots accosts or even approaches you, blade yourself, and steeple your hands in front of your chest as if you are on the firing line getting ready to draw. If they decide to punch you, you will already have your hands up to block your computer (your head).

Every police officer knows from training and watching numerous videos of assaults what happens when you get suckerpunched with a full body wind up; you are going to get knocked unconscious or so dazed you will not be able to defend yourself with the conventional means that are on your belt. This isn’t fantasy, it is real and documented, and any self defense attorney could introduce it as evidence.

Armed citizens share the same risk and almost certainly Zimmerman knew this. “If I go unconscious, this guy has access to my phone, wallet, and most importantly my gun.”

You will be shot with your own gun, believe it. This demographic kills each other over hamburgers and tennis shoes.

Furthermore, you blading yourself toward your opponent and putting your hands up sends an unmistakeable message that you are tactically aware and possessed of skill and determination to make it the worst f’n day of his life.

Just don’t get bogged down in their verbal BS. They will go after easier prey. They’re out there; they are called liberals.
