Fireworks wont be the only thing flying high over the Capitol during the Fourth of July celebration.
An American flag made of hemp, a non-psychoactive variant of marijuana, will be flown over the Capitol on July 4 for one day.
Industrial hempwhich is considered by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to be a Schedule I substance along with ecstasy and heroinis a type of cannabis plant that cannot legally be grown in the U.S. but is legally imported and used in hundreds of products ranging from rope to clothing.

It is myopic and obtuse to ignore narrowly crafted media narratives a lot of my fellow libertarians (small “L”) often do...
Like with the marriage argument... where does the Constitution say that an ecclesiastic rule of monogamy is the law of the land?
(I oppose queer marriage, all men are born of a woman.)
You can say that again. I used to frequent the North Carolina State Surplus Property Agency warehouse. In the back they have all the ill-gotten drug property they seized, like kids shoes and toys and tools that a tradesman might use to make a legitimate living. Not only that, they started taking your DL number at the gate just to go in an look around. I stopped going. It's disgusting.
The left does not believe in private property rights.
They have you running around fighting the wrong battles.
There is wild hemp growing all over the rural roadsides in Iowa. It was introduced during WW II as a crop to be raised on rough land.
Nice David Crosby reference!
It’s appropriate: Thomas Jefferson grew hemp!
I don’t care if Jefferson grew coca...
Denying someone the use of their property is a taking of that property and violates the 5th Amendment.
You should be able to grow opium poppies if you want to.
I am looking at the psychology behind some of their untenable positions being used argued against individual liberty and freedom.
The arguments are emotional, not intellectual, more superstition than fact.
People don't like seeing their truth, so you have to find the right mirror to show them their selves, but without beating them up with it or with "your" truth.
There's always loving way to give those people the metaphorical slap upside the head they need, but it takes the right mindset/heartset and understanding to find it and then a careful delivery.
Ancillary, anecdotal, glib arguments don’t focus on logic, they distract and lead to ambiguity...
Hand out rolling papers and tell the crowd that the flag is made of pot... stand back and watch it burn baby!

Whoa...too early in the day, man. Even on a holiday. I’m not drinking anything until I fire up the grill later this afternoon.
Not directed at you specifically, but generally.
Supporting illegal drug use or taking no action (tacit approval) means the drug cartels are winning—this means supporting the vicious, brutal, cruel, murderous cartels. . .the cartels that bribe the meh-he-co army to escort shipments into the US (violating US sovereignty over 200 times in the last 10 years), challenging US Border Patrol Agents and sometimes attacking those agents (my son, a BP Agent, was attacked by drug smugglers in the desert and shot one of the smugglers. . .good thing the smuggler wasn’t carrying Arizona Tea and Skittles).
Point is, change the law first then have at it. Til then, any use and/or support for illegal drug use is brutally wrong.
Can’t hold your liquor?
Perhaps the argument presented by Polis is correct....my sense is there is more to it than just that alone. Just my suspicion and definitely no disrespect to any of our Founding Fathers was intended.
Sorry to burst your bubble but this is Colorado. It is legal. The grow shops are legally run by Americans. The cartels cannot compete with a legal free market. There are no shootouts over turf. Dogs are safer in their homes.
Apologies if I misread you. I kept thinking we're on the same side, but hadn't gotten far enough into the caffeine part of my day to know for sure.
It’s stupid for sure, but ok if some dimwit wants to do it. Not ok at all over any federal, state or local government building. It is an insult our country to officially fly it.
The first flag ever flown, made by Betsy Ross, was made of hemp.
For the purpose of promoting pot? Really.
You don’t smoke industrial hemp. It isn’t weed. It’s a different variety of cannabis.
