I see us going against Assad as being a mistake in the same vein I agree. I supported arming the mujaheddin against the Soviets in the 80's. Now I see what a disaster that turned out to be for us.

Nope, it’s not naive. This is the situation we can see would have happened. Why did we go after Saddam? He was keeping the Iranis and the jihadis in check? Why? Because the Saudis wanted us to?

yes, unfortunately hindsight is 20-20. But Iraq has been a stumbling block. Dubya should have gone into Pakistan after Afghanistan

Agreed, what’s so great about Kuwait anyway, besides there was a lot of made-up propaganda (i.e., the stories about the incubators) to get us into that war on behalf of our Saudi masters.
