Excuse me, but freeing the slaved did exactly the same thing economically as does amnesty.
The difference is that slaves were brought over against their will. The illegal immigrants on the other hand, came willingly, and broke our nation's laws and jeopardized our national security in the process.

To imply otherwise that I was equating the two is simply silly.
