There was a group in the 1990′s that were malcontents, renegades, off the mainstream plantation of conservativism
and those are the people that were the early participants in the website Free Republic they were known as 'freepers'

Thanks. I was looking for the daily thread, but looks like a previous thread was used.
Actually, Karl Denninger is the one that got me to my first Tea Party activity.
I consider him the founder.
Do a google on “karl denninger tea party founder”
FWIW
It really doesn’t matter who joined earlier, what matters is that we have been on FR and a loyal and staunch conservative from FR’s beginnings.
A special thanks to Jim Robinson for taking the physical and financial risks to make all of this happen.
With a little bit of luck and being at the right place at the right time, FR may become a MAJOR player in defeating our enemy in Washington DC.
Maybe...just maybe...we might take our constitutional rights back from those who stole it from us.
However, I do believe the early years were the best and those who weren't here back then really missed FR at it's finest. Those were fun days...no comparison to today. FR was, in some ways, more active than Tea Parties today.
I think there must have been more FReepers back then than today.
I was merely playing the “beat me” game. Lighten up!
It was a compliment.....not criticism.
Well then...thank you!
Freeper Ping lists, FYI:
Rush Limbaugh credits Free Republic for starting the Tea Party..
BTW, I believe Mark Steyn is sitting in today for Rush. Always worthwhile.
We need the Hugh Manatee!!!!
Proud member since 1999. Spent many a weekend Freeping the Big Creep with the DC Chapter.
thanks for the ping and thanks to Yosemitest for transcribing!

We were primed and ready when Santelli lit the match...
Lots of times Freepers are also talking about what Rush has said - we build on each others ideas... Credit where credit is due? Rush is friggin’ wonderful....
Yeah, but are you:
Thanks for the ping Dave. Enjoyed viewing early Freeper comments.
You’re welcome.
I was driving from Walnut Creek, CA to Travis AFB when I heard him talk about it. I am not one who bad mouths Rush very much, and it was nice to hear him talk about FR.
You can accomplish anything if you don't care who gets the credit.
Who CARES if Rush "makes money" because of things he reads on FR but doesn't credit to FR? What difference does it make? And if Rush started crediting FR, then this site would be overwhelmed with blowhards who post ONLY in the hopes that Rush will read, see -- and credit -- their posts.
Reagan -- the guy who had that reminder posted for himself in the Oval Office, according to things I've read -- was right. In the arena of ideas and seeing them put into action, you can accomplish a lot more if you don't care who gets the credit. No wonder Reagan was so successful.
