Prosecution Witness: Zimmerman Did Not Press Gun to Martin's Chest

On Wednesday at the George Zimmerman trial, the prosecution called yet another witness who ended up testifying for the defense: Florida Department of Law Enforcement firearm analyst Amy Siewert. The prosecution had contended that George Zimmerman was on top of Trayvon Martin and pressed his gun into Martin’s chest before firing and killing him. Siewert testified, however, that there was no forensic evidence that Zimmerman had pressed the gun to Martin’s chest. In fact, the gunpowder residue and other material evidence showed that the gun was touched to Martin’s shirt, and that Martin’s shirt was not pressed to his chest, implying that Martin was on top of Zimmerman and that his shirt was hanging down when Zimmerman shot him.

The state also attempted to maximize the fact that Zimmerman’s gun was loaded, including a round in the chamber, before the fight. But Siewert admitted that guns are not of much use unless they are loaded and there is a round in the chamber.

My mother watched the Hannity-Zimmerman interview tonight. She's in 2nd stage Alzheimer's. She wanted to know why they were talking about Zimmerman like he was white. I explained the "white-Hispanic" label CBSABCNBCCNN invented.

After hearing him describe the fight I asked what she would call that. She said "a mess!" I laughed and said 'but what would you call it in legal terms?' It took her a minute to find the words but she finally said "defensive."

I told her about 0bama saying "If I had a son he would look like Trayvon" before Zimmerman was even charged. She shook her head.

An 85 yr old woman with 2nd stage Alzheimer's who has never been in a fight in her life and likely never fired anything but a BB gun gets it. That's how simple and straightforward this is.

I can’t wait until they come out with Creepy Ass Cracka Beer. All they have to do is change the label on a Budweiser.

Dear Chuck Norris,

You may want to watch that video again and note a few important things.

1. The roles of attacker and defender are reversed from what our discussion was, hence, the runner is picking the time and place to initiate. That provides that provides them ~1 sec of free time.

2. In all of those clips, the runner is catching a bullet, albeit possibly harming the shooter in a few of them.

3. As demonstrated in the video, the shooter is not a static target. Once the runner is at speed, a simple sidestep defeats them and allows for more shots.

So let’s go back to the attacker turning around with a pistol already out and pointed at you, which was my situation. How much ground can you cover before the trigger is pulled?

With due respect to your knungfu skills, until you’ve looked down that barrel, you are the one talking out your ass.

You must have a reading comprehension problem.

This is what I said ...

"Actually the disarm distance is average 26 feet ... if you are ready and the gun is holstered. Gotta be aware of your surroundings at all times"

1. I said that a ready martial artist could disarm someone with a holstered gun at an average of 26 feet.

2. In the second clip the runner is past the shooter before the first shot

3. The next clip shows how to train not to be disarmed so yes the shooter is learning how not to be disarmed AND the attacker is NOT a trained martial artist. I was speaking about a well trained martial artist against an untrained shooter with a holstered gun.

I would not try to disarm a ready gun that was not within arms reach ... I NEVER said that I would charge a ready gun. The whole purpose of my post was to explain why I carry without one "in the pipe".

If you would like further demonstration of the techniques I have mentioned ... I suggest you go down to your local dojo with the attitude and courtesy you have shown me. I'm sure someone there would be happy to "educate" you

Lastly I don't practice Kung Fu and neither does Chuck Norris.

Very impressive Grasshopper, you can move your feet up and down 10 times, to cover over 20’, and also strike a disabling blow, all before an attacker who has chosen to start the fight can move his arm down and up one time and pull his finger 3/4”.

I take everything back, you’re better than Chuck Norris. Are you sporting an “S” on your chest?

I’m curious why an attacker would have a holstered weapon though? The people shooting at me always pulled their unholstered weapons before they announced their intentions.

As for going to your dojo to collect my ass kicking, no thanks. I’ve got two torn up shoulders barely held together and a leg that is less than a full up round. I’ll just concede that someone in good physical condition will likely get the best of me, although I wouldn’t bet the farm on them getting away unscathed. That’s why I carry one in the chamber and never overestimate my capabilities, I can’t afford to assume physical superiority any more.

Can none of your dojo buddies side step your charge? Not even NFL tackles have a lot of luck with that side step. But I wish you the best, first that you won’t be attacked and second that you will be extremely successful if you are. That’s one instance where I’d hate to be proven right. Our difference of opinion aside, I’m sure you are a good man, and we need good men.

It would have been VERY evident if Zimmerman had the muzzle pressed to Trayvon's chest. The muzzle blast from the gunpowder gases would have gone into Trayvon's body, causing very obvious damage in addition to what the bullet did.

Shame ... you seem to be a pretty good guy. Why you want to have a verbal fight about a subject with someone who has over 40 years of experience in it. But insults aside ... Please research ... No offense but from your posts it is pretty obvious you have not the slightest idea of what you're talking about. My students practice by one holding a gun and saying "bang" when they see motion of the other student when they move to disarm. The average disarming student will have the gun pointed at the assailant before they can say "bang" using just basic techniques. Real bullets would strike the holder of the gun. Remember I said we only do this within arms length.

My point is and always was that I don't need one "in the pipe". By the time I would rack a round the knife guy would be close enough for me to "deal" with him lots quicker without my gun and his knife would be mine. Don't need to be Chuck Norris to do that ... any half way decent brown belt could do it. BTW my instructors were Bruce Lee's instructors (Wally Jay ... RIP) ... not Chuck Norris.

If I actually insulted you, that was not my intent. I have very thick skin and I sometimes jest a bit too much with others.

I have no issues with your appraisal of who owns possession of a firearm at arms length distances. My issue was with 20+ ft. My appraisal is that anything over 6’ is a roll of the dice on your part, no matter how good you are. That other guy might be quicker than you think.

I took two guys at ~10’ and 45 degrees apart. A distance I was holding onto. I moved first, as they broke my comfort zone. Any closer and I think they would have taken me.

That said, I had a young punk at about 5’ pull on me without warning and he was shaking so bad I thought he might shoot me by accident. I never found the advantage to take the weapon, but I know some might have.

Unless I am in a situation where I feel threatened, I do not carry with one in the chamber. I can cycle the slide within seconds. When I asked my instructor, he said arguments can be made both ways. He did say overnight the extra seconds required to chamber a round may save the life of your teenager that came into your bedroom unannounced...

I carry everywhere and feel strongly it is a personal choice to decide whether to carry with a round chambered. It depends on the level of threat. If Im at home with an alarm system and a dog, I dont chamber. If Im walking through a parking lot at night, you bet I do.....
