Linguistically, this is actually very true, and is just the continuation of a trend of the loss of irregular verbs. When I was a kid, if you said “dreamed” you were quickly corrected; now, when I say “dreamt”, I get looks.
And don’t forget “is be”, as in, “I is (I’s)be going to the store”, which may be something like a combination of present and a little bit of future tense, as far as I can tell.
