As Allahpundit forcefully points out, Rubio’s whole mission for the Gang of 8 was to anaesthetize the Right with charm and concern.
That wasn’t enough, so he also lied. He lied about the border security provisions in his bill, then declared he was going to fight to add the provisions he’d said were there all along, then when he lost those fights he supported the bill anyway.
He delivered a final heartfelt plea for understanding–and lied there too (denying, for example that “a future Congress can just defund all the security measures,” which it can).
Having started a giant intraparty immigration fight, the Republican money men and well-fed consultants–the Roves and Barbours and Kochs– are now worried that their champion might get bruised. The New York Times sumarrizes

That echoes messages I’ve gotten throughout the immigration fight, saying ‘It’s OK to oppose amnesty, but there’s no need to destroy Marco Rubio.’
Hmm. Some look at Rubio as he is and say, “why should this destroy him?” But others ask, ’why not’?
Rubio’s currently making forceful conservative statements on all these topics–he has to, to make up for his immigration apostasy. Once the immigration fight is over, though, they can take their turns as compromisable-issue-of-the-year.

We should treat Rubio as gently and fairly as his wing of the GOP treated Governor Sarah Palin over the past five years.

Just be grateful we found out he was this dumb before electing him to anything more important.

Rubio was doing his thing on behalf of big business. He knew exactly what he was doing. He will retire from politics a rich man. Just watch.

Hannity has become an absolute joke. He’s nothing but a talking point tape recorder. No intellectual depth whatsoever.
Levin runs circles around him on theory and strategy.
Rubio has set himself up as either naive or complicit in promoting a toothless bill, at odds with American interests.
The things he asserts regarding enforcement, have no basis in reality.
For that he will pay a political price.
Pander FAIL.

I couldn’t stand the whining so I stopped listening.
What (maybe) Rush and company failed to understand is that Rubio needed to be destroyed as soon as he was caught lying about that Senate bill. Same goes with Ryan now. But better late than never, Obama hasnt signed a bill yet.
But Rush made $$$$ off those amnesty commercials so there was no chance of that.
Where is Rubio anyway? Vacationing in Medico with some people smugglers?
