How can Zimmerman follow a person he can't see, and doesn't know where they went?

The meme yesterday surrounded he remark that he didn't want to get out of his car when Martin was starting him down because he had fear. He also said he didn't want to confront Martin. Anyway, the question I ask there is "Are you afraid of a person who is running away to evade you?"

“The meme yesterday surrounded he remark that he didn't want to get out of his car when Martin was starting him down because he had fear. He also said he didn't want to confront Martin.”

I'm not so sure that Z was fearful of Martin. In his interview he mentions martin with his hand in his waistband. But says he figured Martin was bluffing. He recounted an earlier event where some guy was hanging out by a townhouse (I think it had been burglarized) and while he was keeping tabs on the guy (while calling the cops), the guy reached inside his coat (I think was looking at Z.) He pulls out a pack of smokes. Z figured Martin was doing the same thing.

I think Z was “fearful” of confronting Martin and escalating the situation. I think during the interview Serino says something like that would be against the law.(??) Not sure how or why though.

Then Serino, recalling an earlier event (perhaps the smoking guy) in his “good cop” mode says something like “Okay - I can see you don't like confrontation?”

I'm looking at it through my filter - but that is how I would behave. I see someone suspicious, get a bit nervous (do I call 911, will they start something if they see me, will they take off...), then am nervous with 911 (cops you know!) and trying to keep track of where the suspicious person went, etc.
