Ah, well, yes, but it's an outgrowth of the list history. It started as an ad hoc list I compiled of possibly interested parties from a series of respondents to odd stories of government abuse.

I pinged those people to a couple stories and got a very vitriolic and hysterical message threatening to report me to the mods if I didn't remove her from this "Nutjob Conspiracy Ping List" right this minute!!!!

It sorta grew from there. As only FReepers can, a whole bunch of people jumped on the band-wagon and threatened to report me if I did remove them or failed to add them.

Thus the ping list got a name and an admission requirement.

It's about doubled in size since.

Compare to the therm "Big Bang" which was originally intended as a dismissal and disparagement of that particular cosmological theory of origin...
