Tea party activists are targeting Senate Republicans who voted in favor of a controversial immigration reform bill with plans to pack town hall meetings and jam phone lines over the 4th of July holiday, Politico reports.
"The anger is more intense now than it was in 2010," said Judson Phillips, founder of Tea Party Nation. "They are more upset about the amnesty bill than they were about Obamacare."
Amy Kremer, chairwoman of Tea Party Express, predicts some lawmakers will avoid public appearances during the holiday to sidestep embarrassing showdowns with an angry conservative base. Senators don't want a repeat of videotaped town hall meetings in previous years that showed haughty lawmakers in shouting matches with angry constituents.
But Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, whose amendment on border control convinced 14 in his party to support the omnibus bill, thinks those who opposed the measure will face a bigger backlash from voters.
"Once they understand what this amendment really does in spite of the demagoguing of some of my colleagues I think theyll say: 'wait a minute. So people voted against 20,000 border patrol agents?'" Corker said.
The immigration bill approved by the Senate last week on a vote of 68 to 32, would grant amnesty to 11 million illegal immigrants. Corker's border security was criticized by Republicans opposing the bill for making half-hearted efforts like authorizing 20,000 new agents, but not authorizing funding to pay the border officials.

God Bless the Tea Party and all Patriots.
What is the point in having 20,000 or even 40,000 new border patrol agents, if they are not allowed to do their job.
So Mr.Corker, people are not stupid, maybe you are.
liberalism will be the downfall of this once great nation, be it imposed upon us by the liberal denmocRATs or the liberal Republicans. This country is damned.
I hope Rubio is added to that list.
He is.
This isn't about the border, Corker. It is about amnesty, increasing legal immigration to 33 million in the next 10 years, which is more than the past 40 years combined, and doubling the size of the guest worker programs--1.6 million increase the first year and 600,000 every year thereafter. There are 22 million Americans who are underemployed or unemployed. They will see lost jobs and depressed wages with this massive increase in immigration.
This is all political theater to distract from the devastating impact this bill will have on American workers -- unskilled and skilled. Both parties have abandoned the American worker. At one time we were told that immigrants do jobs Americans wont (a lie) do. Now we must bring in more skilled workers to do jobs Americans cant (another lie) do. As one of Rubio aides so artfully put it,
There are American workers who, for lack of a better term, cant cut it. There shouldnt be a presumption that every American worker is a star performer. There are people who just cant get it, cant do it, dont want to do it. And so you cant obviously discuss that publicly.
And BTW, is there any mention in the bill of exactly where those 20,000 extra agents will be stationed? My bet is that the Canadian border will be very well defended.
Come on South Carolina! Time to send Linda Gayham packing ( something other than fudge).
Very Poor headline.
It implies that ‘WE’ are anti those RINO’s because of the Immigration fiasco.
In truth, these RINO’s put themselves on that list a long time ago, this is just another ‘nail in the coffin’. Would love to see some ‘true’ stats in regards to RNC/Karl Rove etal and how much money was spent not only in defense of McCain, Graham etc - at least they pretend to be R’s, - how much “R” money was spent on D’s to keep McMahon, O’Donnell, A West, Mia Long and Sharron Angle that were trying to unseat Libs?
I hope the efforts work on Graham and Corker, but McCain’s district will keep on electing him until he dies, and then they are likely to pass his seat onto Megan, just to keep it in the family.
Too bad Tea Party Nation and Express are just fundraising groups who stayed out of this fight until the last minute. DO NOT GIVE THEM A PENNY! Only Jenny Beth Martin and Tea Party Patriots are the legit group who fought early and strong while shysters like Phillips stayed silent.
Why is Rubio not on that list?
What has happened to AZ? Do the libs and moderates outnumber the Goldwater conservatives?
From your lips to God’s ear!
If the 15 Senate Republicans who voted for the Immigration Bill are honorable individuals, they will have no hesitation in showing up at townhall meetings to explain their votes to their constituents.
Those who refuse to attend such meetings will show that they are not honorable and therefore don’t deserve to be re-elected.
Whereupon, the Tea Partiers who are left in the lurch without a townhall speaker can devote their unused meeting time to making plans to recruit Conservative primary opponents for the missing RINOs. Maybe Sarah Palin will join them.
I agree. Furthermore (I realize you know this kabar), even if you could make "the border" 75% leakproof, I think visa overstays are just as big of a problem.
Today's GOP is too cowardly to represent us.
Calvin Coolidge: "[The political mind] is a strange mixture of vanity and timidity, of an obsequious attitude at one time and a delusion of grandeur at another time. The political mind is the product of men in public life who have been twice spoiled. They have been spoiled with praise and they have been spoiled with abuse."
