Paul Wight is better known as Big Show, who is a 7-foot tall and 440 pound wrestler with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Americas ubiquitous wrestling organization based in Stamford, Conn.
When he takes trips overseas to visit soldiers with the USO in Iraq and Afghanistan, it boosts his personal morale.
Seeing young men and women in uniform heroes, he said is an inspiration. He goes overseas to bring joy to service members, and when he comes back he arrives with a glint in his eye.
Thats his vacation time.

Could someone explain to me the feeling of "joy" at seeing a professional wrestler? I certainly don't get it.
many of those serving fit the demographic: 18-25

Sure no problem.
A Well Known entertainer travels to a shit hole Country and visits and performs for our men and women stationed there. Giving them a break from being hated, bored and sometimes killed.
I do not watch the WWE. But if I was in Afghanistan I can assure you I would enjoy a visit by any of their performers.

My cuz’ was deployed briefly to Iraq in 06’ before being assigned to SoKor. He was at an FOB when John Cena and the WWE stars came to visit and Vince McMahon regardless of what you think of him, always is pro-American troops and always annually entertained our soldiers there. Clearly, you are a spoiled asshat and who is clueless on how it feels to be stationed overseas when social activities is at a premium.
Me neither. They certainly don't bring joy to those of us back home in the states!
Either do hot instant potatoes, but after eating MREs for weeks you come to enjoy the little things.
Although the male wrestling bouts can be entertaining too.
Feel better now? While others gave me a reasonable answer that actually helped me understand you chose to be, well, an asshat, period.
I am not a big fan of Darius Rucker's music but I will never forget that he does USO shows. Dido for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and Kid Rock. If the WWE entertainers wish to donate their time to entertain the troops more power to them. I bet the folks in theater will never forget.
You can bet Jay Leno will be over there after his time with NBC is up. Don't forget Gary Sinise.
Have you recently been deployed to an Overseas Contingency Operation?
It’s kinda like the old saying: “you don’t look a gift-horse in the mouth”
(your remark seems to indicate that any gift you receive must be a gift of YOUR own choosing - which is why you’ve attracted a little bit of negative attention)
With respect to deployed troops, though, and here I speak from experience, it's (1) escapist, (2) a slice of home where ANY slice of home is welcome, and (3) a statement that somebody back home cares enough to do it for you, and believe me, it doesn't matter much who that is. Military life can be dangerous, dirty, anonymous, boring, and thankless. This helps.
WWE wrestlers regularly go to military bases and hospitals around the world to visit our troops. In 2003 they started Tribute to the Troops when they traveled to Iraq and performed for our troops, they have also gone to Afghanistan and other military bases here stateside for this show, and it has become an annual event. They have been involved with Make-A-Wish Foundation for many years; current WWE wrestler John Cena has granted over 300 Wishes. WWE just recently began a partnership with Special Olympics. A handful of WWE wrestlers went to Special Olympics Connecticut's Summer Games earlier this month to cheer on the athletes and present their medals.
Add in their partnerships with the USO and the National Guard, this is just part of what they do for their fans. They don't get a lot of press for what they do, but it's nice that they do get some credit for their good works.
“Feel better now? “
Absolutely.
