Morsi role at Syria rally seen as tipping point for Egypt army
Morsi himself called for foreign intervention in Syria against Assad, leading to a veiled rebuke from the army, which issued a bland but sharp-edged statement the next day stressing that its only role was guarding Egypt’s borders

Morsi’s cut diplomatic relations with Syria WITHOUT CONSULTING ANYONE!
A sore point that he will also pay for dearly. His tribe in Syria, supported by 0b0z0, WILL LOSE BIG TIME!
In the clashes of yesterday in Cairo University, (video in #1036 supplied upthread by caww, thank you,) a police major was shot dead by the MB. I hear a 50 cal. firing. It must be security forces. No wonder the arrests of Ikhwan leaders were conducted (see #1046 by caww and #1047 by MestaMachine, thank you both)
Just connecting some great FReepers’ dots.
Morsi is apparently holed up with the Republican Guards to pit army against army! The rebels are surrounding the place and demanding that the Republican Guards arrest Morsi to save Egyptian blood.
The Republican Guards are well armed units with tanks and heavy weapons but they’re NOT equivalent to Saddam’s armored divisions in the first Gulf War.
I don’t believe that Morsi’s will put a fight against the regular army and Egyptian AF.
The Egyptian TV headquarters is under the control of the army and Republican Guards, sources said July 3, Al Arabiya reported.
