Egyptian security and medical officials say an American has been killed in the Mediterranean coastal city of Alexandria during clashes between supporters and opponents of Egypt's embattled President Mohammed Morsi.
Alexandria security chief Gen. Amin Ezz Eddin told Al-Jazeera TV that an American was killed Friday in Sidi Gabr Square while photographing the battles between opposition youth and members of the Muslim Brotherhood, from which Morsi hails.
A medical official told The Associated Press the American was wounded by gunshots and died at the hospital.

“Western capitals are confused”
LOL! Apparently, when Egyptians get a taste of freedom, they aren’t as compliant as Westerners who passively sit like frogs in a warm comfy pot until the heat of totalitarianism is turned up so high they are dead in slavery to the state before they know what just happened.
Meanwhile, MSM will provide us with wall-to-wall Zimmerman trial coverage, interspersed with other news tidbits, so US viewers can be informed.
Hmmm, that makes sense. This is really quite fascinating! Sorry to use the same words over and over, I just am in awe of the strength and bravery of these Egyptians.
Meanwhile... Army softens previous statement.
Egypt’s army issues a statement: “We do not allow the policy of military coups.” #Egypt
Obama’s foreign policy is in shambles, not to mention Hillary’s 2016 campaign.
May they both go down in a flurry of abject righteousness of ‘WE THE PEOPLE’; even if it has to come from the Egyptian people :)
BARF!

Brotherhood, however, a military intervention would be an epic defeat. It would deny them the chance to govern Egypt that the Brotherhood had struggled 80 years to finally win, in democratic elections, only to see their prize snatched away after less than a year.
We understand it as a military coup, one adviser to Mr. Morsi said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss confidential deliberations. What form that will take remains to be seen.
The militarys ultimatum seemed to leave Mr. Morsi few choices: cut short his term as president with a resignation or early elections; share significant power with a political opponent in a role such as prime minister; or attempt to rally his Islamist supporters to fight back for power in the streets.
Mr. Morsis adviser said the military should not assume that the Brotherhood would accept its ouster without an all-out battle to defend his democratic victories. The Brotherhood may not take this lying down, the adviser said.
This should be good!
No surprise there. Of course ALL the MB knows is blood and gore.
The predictable military answer to the beards boast:
GO AHEAD... MAKE MY DAY...PUNKS!
“No surprise there. Of course ALL the MB knows is blood and gore.”
the blood will be theirs.
They are outnumbered, but how armed are they? They are vicious and imho, mentally impaired.
I do hope you are correct, prayers up.
They already shot and killed 8 and injured tens of people from their Mokattam HQ windows.
Their weapons will never stand a chance against the military and millions of people who want them down and out.
Sounds good to me! Thank you for the clarifications.
CAIRO - Egyptian security forces arrested 15 armed bodyguards of the number two in the ruling Muslim Brotherhood, Khairat El-Shater, on Monday after an exchange of fire in which no one was injured, security sources said.
The Brotherhood's political party, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), denied the report, and quoted Shater as saying his private driver had been kidnapped after shooting in the area.
The sources said the shootout occurred when security forces went to arrest the guards for alleged unlawful possession of firearms they are suspected of having used to shoot at protesters attacking the Brotherhood's headquarters on Sunday.
Eight people were killed and more than a dozen injured in clashes around the Brotherhood building on a suburban hilltop overlooking Cairo.
