when push comes to shove, will they really be willing to do it

Some, but not all or even most. The question is what percentage of citizens will be willing to stand up for freedom and for the Second Amendment, and what percentage of cops will be willing to risk it once? Twice? I imagine, having had time to think through the situation a whole lot more than those in New Orleans could, a good percentage of Americans would decline to cooperate. How many cops would bet on that percentage being zero, when they're going to face armed Americans, many of them prior military, who are in the right and know how to shoot?

Remember that the cops in the Los Angeles riots pretty much ran away like little girls.
