Defense attorney Don West quickly established that Jeantel was 18 at the time of the shooting not 16, that she had not been hospitalized, and that she was not Martin’s girlfriend. He also confirmed that she lied about the hospitalization under oath,

West walked Jeantel through the various stories she had been telling since first going public, emphasizing their discrepancies.

The most significant of those discrepancies was her claim in later interviews of having heard Martin yelling “get off, get off” once he dropped the phone after a physical exchange with Zimmerman.

West made a strong case that these later additions, like much of her story, was manufactured. Jeantel’s inability to keep her story straight reinforced that suggestion.

The fact that state prosecutors first interviewed Jeantel under oath at the home of Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, with Fulton sitting next to her on the couch did not reassure anyone that her testimony was freely given.

In a spectacularly un-coached moment, Jeantel explained that when Martin first saw Zimmerman eying him, he called Zimmerman a “creepy a– cracker.”

It may have been Martin who was doing the racial profiling. When asked, Jeantel denied that the word “cracker” had a racist implication.

On day two West bored into Jeantel’s many inconsistencies in time, space and motive. Although West did not emphasize the state’s future problem at this stage, Jeantel confirmed that Martin had several minutes to return to the house where he was staying – roughly 100 yards from the point where he started running – but never went there.

They are probably just following the script, My FRiend. The script requires a show trial, ending with a guilty verdict. It also calls for enough of a "defense" to make the show trial appear to be legitimate. Zimmerman would have gotten a fairer trial had he been a defendant in a Stalin era show trial, complete with a signed "confession" sweated from him by the NKVD. Or had he been a Jew in one of the 1930's Germany's "People's Courts.

The defense is doing a good job with what they are allowed to do.

Isn’t the basic problem not “information” but the subordination of rational analysis to emotion? This is a product of limited natural ability for some, and the extended immaturity which our shallow, Left-driven culture promotes relentlessly. This can render even high-IQ individuals into easy prey for hucksters.

Exactly! Some people just seem to be incapable of rational analysis. I don’t know whether they really are incapable or not, I tend to refer to them as WILLFULLY IGNORANT. They strongly object to almost anything that actually makes sense. They will loudly praise anyone who says the equivalent of two and two make five but will call someone who says that two and two make four an idiot, racist, retarded, intolerant or whatever current buzzword comes to mind.

As with most things, I figure there are probably numerous, spmetimes overlapping, sources of idiotic behavior, of which natural talent cuts a wide swath, followed by, as you say, willful ignorance. The Leftist political agenda is at root irrational (i.e., allocation of resources and control of individuals by socialist coercion rather than free rational choice), which is why “normal” people experience the current world as an Alice in Wonderland dystopia. The Zimmerman trial is a battleground of a larger culture war, wherein normal people are required to kowtow to and financially support violent, ignorant, non-productive thugs and morons, domestic and imported, as part of a forced political correctness agenda. Question for leftists: what would the world be like if we depended on people like Trayvon and Rachel Jeantel to run things and maintain a civilization?
