Usually they let the “moderate” democrats hide behind the democrat voting republicans to protect their seats and deceive the people. But Schumer wanted a big number.

The Dims are all about the collective, top-down, fall-in-line take-orders kind. They don’t vote their conscience, they do their leaders bidding. Conservatives, being the rugged individualists that we are vote our principles, not our leaders. Now some conservatives don’t really represent conservative principles, but that’s another story...
