One witness to the trial said that her exlamation, “WHAT?!” when told she would have to come back tomorrow (today) could easily be heard in the hallway. ;-)

NPR played the audio tape of her talking and she DID sound soft spoken. But that is because EVERYBODY sounds soft spoken to a mono microphone on the other side of the room in a large courtroom with hard walls.

It wasn’t her quietness that caused people to have a hard time understanding her. It was her third grade level ebonics.
