No. The best way to see the country is to come here. If you have some money, you can "partner" with a Filipino and start a business, but the main export from here is OFW's (offshore foreign workers). Philippine law makes it difficult to compete with the Filipinos for jobs.
Cebu just made it to the top of the retirement places to live...
I live in Ormoc City, Leyte, and rent a modern 5 bedroom house for 10,000 PhPesos a month ( current exchange is 43+PhP=$1US). My total nut is about $800 including food, satellite TV (inc/ FoxNews and FoxSports), hi-speed internet( for streaming), water and electricity. I don't have a car. I drive a Honda Scoopy scooter!
It costs much less than Cebu to live here, but it is more "provincial". It's a poor country and hired help is cheap. My housekeeper is paid 2500 PhP per month! She cleans, cooks, and does the laundry by hand. I have two workers today for 150PhP each to clean the first and second story windows, wash the tiled courtyard, and cut the grass/clean outside the gate AND wash my Scoopy.
I am soon opening a restaurant here featuring EASTERN NC pulled pork and NOLA style Po-boys! I can and probably will stay here until I die! I can visit home any time I wish, via internet and Korean Air!!
I am retired and on a pension large enough for me to live there in comfort, But I won’t leave here without my family, my kids and Grandkids, and they cannot go without jobs.
