After Supreme Court Ruling, Senate to Hold Hearings on Voting Rights Act

By Chris Good

Jun 25, 2013

The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold hearings next month after the court on Tuesday invalidated the Voting Rights Act’s coverage formula, which determines which voting districts must gain pre-approval from the Department of Justice for voting policy and procedure changes.

The court left standing Section 5, which requires states with histories of racial discrimination to seek such approval, only invalidating the formula that determines which districts fall under that provision. Congress last reauthorized the law in 2006. Read more about the Supreme Court’s landmark decision on voting rights.

Now, it’s essentially up to Congress to re-write the formula. Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., announced the Voting Rights Act hearings to Democratic senators at their weekly caucus luncheon, held about two and a half hours after the Supreme Court handed down its decision, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told reporters.

.......Dems are paranoid----USSC threw a stink bomb into their plans to STEAL the 2014 elections.......

A BIG OPPORTUNITY NOW for the item the Dems loathe most----voter ID which effectively curtails serial voting by illegals w/ multiple identities.

=========================================

The overlooked secret weapon of Ohaha/2012 was the "early voting" scam in key states....states he won handily which clinched the election. When the Ohio Secy of State tried merely to regulate and standardize EV, the D'rats went ballistic--it would have demolished their "secret weapon."

Dems had detailed voter lists--they knew every voter in their precincts-- and had a plan to get every one to the polls. Days of early voting and extended hours enabled the D'rat machine to herd the masses into busses and take load after load bodily to the polls. This is how they got 100% votes in black precincts. They wouldn't have had the resources to get them all to the polls on one day......they had to have early voting---the long open season to deposit the necessary votes at the polls.

FIGURES The dopey GOP had no such organization, or apparently, even the faintest idea of what the DNC had been doing the last four years.

This is exactly how they pulled off 2012.

Alternatively Romney depended on a out of date computer base to support a 'call on phone to remind voters to vote' plan that failed.(My answering machine screens my home phone calls)

Rev Al was livid on The Morning Joe this morning and he got no sympathy.

Joes asked him ‘So you are saying that requiring voter ID now is the same as 1965 Alabama with the police dogs and firehoses and the clubbings and poll taxes...?’ The Rev Al's and John Lewis's are both romanticizing the 1960s civil rights era and trivilaizing it at the same time.

Pretty good entertainment.

This might be fun to watch.

Could be.

Picture Cruz standing up in the hearing saying "I want to get this straight, so we are all perfectly clear on where the democrat party stands on this. Are you saying that you believe Texans are in herrantly racist and thus unable to draw fair congressional distrits?

Correct. The GOP was playing golf, apparently.
