Gore: ‘Energy Release’ Equal to ‘400,000 Hiroshima Atomic Bombs Going Off' Every Day

(CNSNews.com) - In a Google “Hangout” aired online on June 13, former Vice President and global warming activist Al Gore said “carbon polluters” are expelling enough “extra energy” to equal almost a half million atomic bombs going off every day.

“The total amount of man-made global warming pollution surrounding the planet and the atmosphere today now traps enough extra energy every 24 hours to equal the energy release by 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs going off every single day,” Gore said.

“Collectively, we put 90 million tons of global warming pollution into the atmosphere every 24 hours,” Gore explained. “Twenty percent of it will still be there 10,000 years from now. It’s adding up.”

Gore also referenced the recent flooding in Germany.

“There’s a 500-year flood going on in Southern Germany today,” Gore said. “We’re seeing these thousand-year, 500-year events occur on a regular basis now,” Gore said.

Gore said urgency was required to combat global warming and urged President Barack Obama to “get moving” on the issue.

As CNSNews.com reported, in an article on global warming, however, posted June 20 on Spiegel Online, German climate scientist Hans von Storch said that the predictions of a warming planet have not panned out so far.

“That hasn't happened,” Storch said. “In fact, the increase over the last 15 years was just 0.06 degrees Celsius (0.11 degrees Fahrenheit) – a value very close to zero,” said Storch, a professor at the Meteorological Institute of the University of Hamburg and director of the Institute for Coastal Research at the Helmholtz Research Centre in Geesthacht, Germany.

Invent a new scary unit for the same old measurement.
Yea, that'll work. Unfortunately.

Damn. This explains why life no longer exists on earth.

Why don´t these environmentalists have a mass suicide...that would be the best thing for the earth...less bodies..less pollution...just think of the savings..

Gore: ‘Energy Release’ Equal to ‘400,000 Hiroshima Atomic Bombs Going Off' Every Day...

And that's just from Al Gore's orifices alone!

I’d wager it will all be around somewhere 10,000 years from now. Just as it was here 1 million years ago.

0.06 degrees is “statistically indistinguishable” from 0.

The number I’ve heard for the half-life of a molecule of CO2 in the atmosphere is 100 years, much shorter for any other species of GHG. Just like Al Gore. I have no idea what he is talking about.

97% of global CO2 is naturally-occurring.

The human contribution (3%) applies to a gas CO2 that itself comprises only 0.38% of the Earth's atmosphere.

Got that? Ok.

Now: of the man-made component (approximately 0.0114%), only 17% of that amount originates in the US and Canada, and much of that is attributable to agriculture, forestry, and other land use.

Even the most draconian, industry-ruining, economy-destroying regulations on U.S. power plants imaginable would result in a negligible reduction in global CO2 levels, and might even result in an increase, owing to the need for humans to burn increased amounts of wood for heat.

The molecule may change through chemical reactions but the matter is still there just as it always has.

Al Gore knows exactly what he’s talking about. He knows that global warming is making him rich and is a great tool for expanding control over Americans.

He also knows that 47% of the population believes whatever he says.

You know, maybe if there were a single honest investigative journalist around they might look into the historic records of temperatures in caves which would be a much better indicator of medium term cooling/warming.

If, using the above method, we determine there is a slow cooling/warming then it would be very refreshing to have an HONEST debate as to the cause.

The numbers could help us track industrial development vs sun activity, volcanoes, forest fires, fish farts to determine IF there is any contribution by man, and if that contribution is adding to the problem or, and here is the BIG ONE, helping to alleviate the problem.

Boy would that make the Glo-Bull warming crowd’s head explode (and with Al Bore that would be a big explosion) if the numbers pointed to our moderating effect on natural climate cycles.

Maybe some more soot in the air would push temperatures in the right direction assuming someone is smart enough to know what is the right average temperature.

We do know for a FACT that the Glo-Bull warming liars were pushing to “Hide the Decline” as that would have shown them to be frauds.

Someone please post the picture of Gore leaning over his weapon, adjusting it’s sling, during his Vietnam journalism tour. This really highlights his “intelligence”.

You're off by a decimal point. The atmosphere CO2 percentage is 1/10th of that.

“The total amount of man-made global warming pollution surrounding the planet and the atmosphere today now traps enough extra energy every 24 hours to equal the energy release by 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs going off every single day,” Gore said.

So let’s see, 400,000 atomic bombs going off every day has not really made any significant changes to our environment…so what you’re saying is that the “doom and gloom” predictions about using just one nuclear device are wrong. Nuking our enemies will have a negligible effect on our planet. That’s good to know…thanks Al.

Thanks - you're right - I missed a "0" in the decimal-to-percentage conversion. Atmospheric CO2 is 0.038%, the estimated human contribution toward which is 0.00114%, with a relatively small percentage of that tiny amount attributable to US power plants.

I’m not sure about the naturally occuring part. CO2 concentration has risen dramatically in the last 50 years, by an amount known to be consistent with human emmissions. I’m not so sure that that is bad thing. CO2 is definitely “green” in that it encourages plant growth. Linden (iirc) thinks that the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is way beyond the saturation level for atmospheric warming. An increase in 50% in CO2 is likely to increase the CO2 absorption component of global temperature less than 1%.
