SAVANNAH, Ga. Watching Paula Deens cooking show was a weekend ritual for Marilynne Wilson, who says shes furious at the Food Network for dumping the comfort-food queen after she acknowledged using racial slurs in the past.
I was shocked. I thought shed get a fair trial, Wilson, a nurse from Jacksonville, Fla., said Saturday after stopping to buy souvenirs at the gift shop Deen owns next to her Savannah restaurant. I think the Food Network jumped the gun.
A day after announcing that its dropping Deen from its roster of celebrity cooks, the cable network was served heaping portions of Southern fried outrage by her fans.
Angry messages piled up Saturday on the networks Facebook page, with many Deen fans threating to change the channel for good. So good-bye Food Network, one viewer wrote. I hope you fold like an accordion!!!
The decision to drop Deen, whose daytime shows have been a Food Network fixture since 2002, came two days after disclosure of a recent court deposition in which Deen was asked under oath if she had ever used the N-word. Yes, of course, 66-year-old Deen said, though she added, Its been a very long time.
Deen and her brother are being sued by a former manager of their restaurant who says she was harassed and worked in an environment rife with innuendo and racial slurs.
Wilsons friend Debbie Brown said the Food Network is basically convicting Deen. They should have waited until it goes to court, she said.
Deen issued a videotaped apology Friday in asking fans and critics alike for forgiveness. It had been posted online for about an hour when the Food Network released a terse statement that it will not renew Paula Deens contract when it expires at the end of this month.

<Yup. I said it. I say it all the time. I dont like em. I dont respect em. What are you going to do about it? Arrest me?
LOL! I’m a middle-aged black female. When I read about the Paula Deen flap, I figured she’s older than I am, from the South, of course she’s said the ‘N’ word. Shoot, I say the ‘N’ word (and I don’t sing rap).
I go by the Chris Rock school of race relations, there are N...... and there are black people. Nobody likes ‘N’s.
I dislike Paula for reasons other than her use of the ‘N’ word, but as long as she’s not using it with employees, or letting it be said in the work place, than so what? I’m not going to ruin a woman’s life work because once upon a time she said a word that was quite common in her part of the world and is certainly common among blacks today. What a double standard!
I would like to know more about the lawsuit and the workplace environment before I call for Deen’s head.
I don’t believe in special privileges for protected classes of people. If black rappers aren’t penalized for using the word, then no one should be.
BTW, the woman suing Paula is white. She worked there for 5 years before quitting. It's all about $$$$.
In the lawsuit, Paula comes across as a "trash mouth" and her brother as an absolute hard drinking idiot.
"Trash with cash."
I gave up HGTV some time ago. I got tired of their pushing the homo agenda. Then I read that on the house hunting shows, people had to have already bought the house. I knew I made the right decision. I wonder how many dems who thought Byrd was great but never mentioned his KKK connections are critical of Deen. When my daughter was 2/3, we were visiting my parents. There was a Black family who lived nearby. The kids would come over to use the phone. One day she was outside playing when she saw them coming. She ran to my mom and told her those chocolate milk kids were coming. Guess that is how she saw them.
Accusations of offending the Chosen Miniority trumps justice, fairness, informed judgement, logic, common sense.
Liberals preach forgiveness for terrorists, murderers, rapists, and performers of illegal abortions.
But they demand serious blood the instant anyone is accused of offending a black.
Paula already has her millions.
She should laugh at her critics, point out what hypocrits they are and tell them to take a flying leap.
Maybe this experience will cause her to rethink her foolish support of liberal politicians.
More than you think. My Filipino bud tells me stories on his experience taking the train through black neighborhoods, and I;ve had the same. Have you ever tried watching a Tyler Perry movie? Run a camera and recording device and you’ll be surprised at what you hear in the mostly black audience..
The funniest thing about this story was the accompanying photo of her supporters outside of her Georgia restaurant. Looked like the set of The Biggest Loser.
My point was that she admitted to using the term some thirty years ago after being mugged and that is what Food Network is using in their decision, right?
“Niggardly.”
Someone had to say it.
She grossed me out sticking her hands into chop meat and shaping meat loaf with all her gaudy rings on...blaaaaa
BTW, I don't care what you think and I was never mad...which made me not think twice about posting to your comment.
I laughed at a racist joke my Uncle told me once.
Am cutting wrists now.
I think that’s what Mel Gibson did.
I wasn’t disputing your comment...just think it’s a hoot that people would think she didn’t use the N-word yesterday! Along with a few other choice words! LOL!
