SAVANNAH, Ga. The line of Paula Deen fans waiting for her restaurant here to open grew throughout the hot, muggy morning Saturday.
They discussed what they might select from the buffet inside The Lady and Sons, her wildly popular restaurant in the heart of Savannah.
But they also talked of boycotting the Food Network, which dropped their beloved TV chef on Friday after she awkwardly apologized for having used racial slurs and for considering a plantation-themed wedding for her brother, with well-dressed black male servants.
The predicament that Ms. Deen finds herself in began when a former employee a white woman who is now managing restaurants in Atlanta filed a discrimination lawsuit in March 2012. She claimed that racial epithets, racist jokes and pornography on office computers were common while she managed Uncle Bubbas Oyster House, one of the restaurants in Ms. Deens empire. Forbes has estimated her net worth at $17 million.
Most of the diners in line on Saturday morning were white and more than ready to defend one of their favorite cooking stars. But at the very front was Nicole T. Green, 36, an African-American who said she had made a detour from a vacation in New Orleans specifically to show up in support of Ms. Deen.

Then she needs to disappear quietly, and quit licking her fingers while preparing food.
Yet Bill Maher still has a job ...
Actually, I think this affair will contribute to her popularity.
But this goes to show that if you lie down with the Pillsbury Dough Boy, you're liable to wake up with crumbs.
Maybe with the Triple-K RATs.
I believe you’re right. She cried and seems to have the right amount of regret.
On that note, I regret the wasted hours I waited in line to eat at her restaurant.
I’ve also eaten at her Savannah restaurant. It was delicious but made me sick as a dog (too rich for my blood).
I hope not... she is a big fat Obama supporter... she is icky...
Food was that bad, huh?
I wonder what is really behind this bru-haha. Saying something racist 30-40 years ago does not seem like the real reason Food Net Work fired her. I can’t help believe there is more to it, maybe she is just not a very nice person to do business with.
What is up with the law suit of discrimination? The “White” employee filed the charge, why?
Guess I am wearing the tin foil hat, none of this makes sense.
We had a senator in office who was an officer in the KKK.
he was never fired, or even criticized.
Lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas.
As an obama supporter she’s getting exactly what she asked for.
I would have thought she was worth more. Not that 17 million is anything to sneeze at!
I will not allow food Nazis and language Nazis to tell me who I can watch and whose cookbooks I can buy. They can go to hell as far as I’m concerned. Paula will get picked up by another cable network - if they’re smart.
P.S.: I wandered around two supermarkets yesterday looking for her magazine and couldn’t find it. What’s up with that?
IIRC , it was Emeril that made the FN .
I didn’t know she was an Obama supporter. She just took at big drop in popularity at my house.
I lay this at the feet of the “respectable” conservatives, they simply authenticate these sort of anti-white pogroms the left relies on for their program of totalitarian socialism. It should be obvious to anyone who dares think that the dogmas of “anti-racism” are nothing more than anti-white. Anti-whitism the new anti-semetism.
Now there's a word you don't often see used in a sentence!
The timing of the breaking of this story is oddly coincidental to the opening of the Zimmerman trial IMO.
