Why not? They all profit from it-- when everything is forbidden or regulated, the regulators and lawmakers get a lot of attention and a lot of money from supplicants asking to get the boot off their necks (or to have it applied to their competition).
From their perspective it's a win-win situation-- they get their egos stroked and wallets stuffed while their contributors get a good deal.
The fact that the rest of us are reduced to serfs earning Third World wages bothers them not one bit-- after all, as Rubio's aide put it, we're not quite up to snuff.
The only thing that will fix this is a gallows on the Mall long enough to stretch 535 necks.
