it’s assumed most black applicants have felony convictions so there’s no reason to check.

But if a company does that, and rejects all black applicants, then DOJ will be on 'em like a duck on a June bug. Even if they just reject more of them, without cause, than of other applicants, the EEOC will know, because they collect stats on that stuff.

So the solution is to make gun ownership a requirement of the job

That would create more gun owners, and you KNOW, The Won doesn't want that.

The courts ought to laugh at the lunacy.

The same Courts that called the Obamacare fine, a tax, and ruled the whole sordid scheme an exercise of Congress' power to tax? Those courts?

What job doesn't include a criminal background check?

The Dallas police will conducting such checks on anyone who wants a ticket to the Kennedy Assassination Commemoration in Dealy Plaza.

Will that be discriminating against minorities? Someone needs to tell John Wiley Price.

City opens drawing for 5,000 tickets to 50th anniversary commemoration of JFK assassination

"Applicants will be checked for violent criminal history and extremist ties, said Dallas First Assistant Chief Charles Cato."

IOW, FReepers and Tea Party types need not apply.

In looking for a job the past nine months I have applied to well over 100 financial institutions, and just about every one said I would have to agree to a background check in ordered to be considered for a job with them...

Only 9 months? For me was 17. The only reason I got the (Temp) job I've been at for the last year was that I'd already had the BI in '06, one of many over the previous 40+ years, and it hadn't yet expired. The first being the one I had to pass to be admitted to the AF ROTC program.

What my company with did was to change to different contractors for outside contractors and temp help with new requirements for screening already in place. A company is responsible for every accident that a temp worker, outside contractor, and construction worker has on their property. Etc...

Just hire white people, your odds of getting good non criminal workers are better.

But the probability of having EEOC sue your ash would then become 100%.

BTTT means “Back to the Top” or Bump to the top. If you look at the forum/latest comments then the thread jumps back to the top. It’s basically a way of drawing attention to it, saying you agree with it, that kinda thing.

SO Obama is saying that blacks are more likely to be criminals than whites.

Obama Administration Sues Dollar General for Using Background Checks on Job Applicants

Is it just me? Or do our elected criminals have it totally ass-backwards again?

Just because the feds have no problem hiring felons, and private industry generally prefers not to, which one should change? Depends on whether you're sane or not.

Seems to me that the Feds should stop hiring criminals, not forcing private industry to do the same.Racism?
OK.
Can't they just invent a sham government where the crooks can do whatever they want, get their welfare checks and pretend they're working, but make sure nothing they do has any real world effect on anything.
Wouldn't we be a whole bunch better off?

The victim then sues me because if I had done a simple background check, I would have seen the person’s prior arrest record.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

That's not the way I read it. I see nothing to prevent you from making a background criminal check. Just that you may not refuse to hire on the results of that check. But...

You can then cover yourself by writing the EEOC informing them that you have a potential serious criminal, but you are not refusing to hire him/her/it only because the EEOC forbids you to do so.

Then, when you get sued...

Wouldn’t a job requiring a high school diploma, or college degree, also tend to “disproportionally” discriminate against minorities, who receive those credentials at lower rates than whites?

No one has claimed that the EEOC is done with their policy/law making yet.

Just give them a few more days.

When they get to occupations that allow access to every part of my house (plumbers, painters, carpet layers, etc.,) I'm leaving the country, or be forced to be become a full time DIY-er.

Except that on this site, that ceased to work years ago. So it's a "memory reflex" to old timers. BTTT was a special case of posting "something," the current equivalent is "bookmark."

But that no longer puts the thread at the top of newly posted threads as it used to once upon a time. But it does allow you to find the thread again if you wish to see further posts on a thread of interest, using the "search" function, which still works.

Amazing that an entity that conducts background checks on all new hires - down to the lowliest clerk, will sue a business for doing the same.

last year issued new guidelines that cautioned against rejecting minority applicants who have committed a crime and recommended businesses eliminate policies that “exclude people from employment based on a criminal record.”

How dare they refuse a felon! just dont hire a vet!
Affirmative action with a twist, if your black or hispanic, no background check for a record or work experience and you go to the front of the line ahead of everyone else with experience, schooling and work ethics. The’re deliberatley and purposely axing your kids out of the job market
