Is truly a racist or is she just a culturally ignorant old woman? Regardless of which, the hurtful words she spoke can never be unspoken. The damage has already been done to her image and to the African American community, especially her fanbase. But how does President feel about the latest controversy surrounding her use of the N-word and other racially insensitive behaviors?

It seems the problem here is that Deen comes from an out-of-touch attitude that is ingrained in Southern culture. She may not personally feel racist or want any harm to come to people of different races,

According to one account I just read, she used the word ni**er in reference to a black man who put a gun to her head in a bank in 1968 in order to rob her. She used the word in her deputation. I would say that’s an appropriate description of a black thug who would put a gun to my head..

it is very hard to have any sympathy for anyone who campaigned for Obama. This is exactly what Deen got when she cast her lot with Leftists. She was lynched and there will be no mercy.

Oh come on Chelsea. Just listen to the Comedy channel for about an hour some Sat night and after you hear 4—5 black stand up comics say da “N” this and da “N” that over and over into infinity you will be completely OK with it. I was on a training TDY near Biloxi in the early 90s. While off duty I would hang out at a club west of town. When a waitress asked for help from a sweet young lady working behind the bar, the barmaid shouted “I’m not your ******!” This was with several black people sitting at the bar. It was an awkward and bizarre situation, but nobody seemed phazed.

Deen admitted using the “n” word growing up in the South when that was common and acceptable. She denies using the word more recently, as alleged in the lawsuit, and the fact that she supported Obama gives some credence to that denial. Someone should not be fired for saying things as a child that they now regret. (By the way, I do not watch her show.)

This is exactly my impression. A few years ago I was riding the bus and two black male teenagers kept calling each other the "n" word, in voices loud enough for me to easily hear. It was obvious to me that they were doing this partly to emphasize that THEY could say it, but I couldn't. I was tempted to tell them, "If that's what you call each other, who am I to disagree?"
