LOS ANGELES (KTLA) The crash that killed journalist Michael Hastings was ruled an accident by police, but conspiracy theories continued to circulate on Friday.
Hastings, 33, was killed in a fiery solo-vehicle crash in Hancock Park early Tuesday morning.
...Staff Sgt. Joseph Biggs told KTLA that he received an email from Hastings on Monday.
Biggs had known Hastings since 2008, when the journalist was embedded in his unit in Afghanistan.
On Monday morning, I woke up and I got an email, and its very panicked, Biggs said.
He was blind-copied on the email, which was sent to Hastings colleagues.
In part, it said that the feds were interviewing his close friends and associates, and that he was onto a big story and needed to get off the radar.
The FBI has denied that Hastings was ever under investigation.
It alarmed me very much, Biggs said. I just said it doesnt seem like him. I dont know, I just had this gut feeling and it just really bothered me, he said.
The email was sent just before 1 p.m. on Monday, 15 hours before the deadly crash.
Breaking news photographer Scott Lane happened to be less than a mile from the scene of the crash, and shot video of the fiery aftermath.
Video taken from his cars dashcam also caught what appeared to be Hastings Mercedes minutes before the crash, speeding through a red light.
More than 30 seconds pass after Hastings car goes by, and no other cars pass through the intersection.
Theres no cars that are following him, Lane said. He flies by and 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds goes by
No cars are following him.

Thanks!
Look up “Boston Brakes.”
Much less be completely engulfed from front to rear within seconds of the impact.

It isnt just that crash that makes it Boston Brakes but the speedometer stuck at some outrageous speed and the blood acohol level, always from a sample that is mysteriously misplaced later. Oh, and I almost forgot, no skidmarks, something accident investigators only see at suicides or murder. Remember, always no skidmarks.
The trail that led me to look into Boston Brakes involved the suicide in 2003 of Dr. David Kelly, a suicide now ruled a murder. Kelly was believed to have killed himself because he had been attacked in the press by Prime Minister Tony Blair. Kelly, a prominent weapons scientist had claimed, as we all know is true today, that Tony Blair had falsified intelligence to force Britain into what Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has called the illegal invasion of Iraq. With evidence finally, years later, piling in showing that Kellys body had been moved and a suicide scene staged, pathologist records falsified and that Kelly was murdered with broad complicity by more than one government agency, things have started to take on a life of their own.
The assassination of Dr. David Kelly if prosecuted, and it is now under full criminal investigation, could lead to the highest levels of the British and American governments, the absolute highest. Kelly was that important and the secrets they thought they had silenced when he was murdered point to the heads of state of several countries, not just Britain and America but Israel, North Korea, South Africa and maybe a few more. This was a stupid and clumsy murder of a good and decent man. Selling nuclear weapons to North Korea isnt a joke, not at least to Dr. David Kelly. This is what cost him his life.

So while I know the car could be tampered with, I'm thinking there would be some physical evidence of that. Unless for some reason Hastings just didn't have the presence of mind to turn off the ignition.
I'm thinking that they got to Hastings with something that would make him panic. Why was he going so fast if no one was following him? I think he was either having some kind of panic attack probably drug induced or he was trying to get out of town or get to someone and thought seconds mattered more than being inconspicuous.
Black box?? Who would have access to it?
If the car has a smart key with a push button starter that is also controlled by the computer. Remember the CHP officer in a loaner Lexus during the "unintended acceleration" flap? He was pounding the button and the car would not shut off. It requires holding the button down for several seconds - like a PC.
If the PCM wants the ignition on, it is on.
The single most awesome link I’ve ever got. Thanks.
Thanks. I’ve seen a lot of true crime solved on ID Discovery and quite a few of them were staged car accidents that, if truly investigated, turn out to be murders. If the people responsible to investigate have reason not to do so, they should at least answer informed questions about the logistics of this accident. I would not have an informed question about this issue other than the chain of events but I know some would and should.
I don’t know the answer to that one
I’ve done some more reading and according to several car experts it’s entirely plausible this was an accident and the fuel line was ruptured causing explosion ..and that explosion on impact (from a high rate of speed) is not uncommon.
It’s odd that no one has reported what he did that day or what he was doing out at 4am . It’s tough to have a fact-based opinion when we have no context.
Just plain weird.
Wow, how much did she weigh?
Since he thought the FBI was questioning those around him, and they say they weren’t. There should be an investigation. Detailed autopsy and complete evaluation of car and its black box All results should be made VERY public to dispell speculation
I know it can happen, but I’m wondering what the odds are of it happening to a famous journalist who is investigating government corruption mere hours after notifying an attorney .gov may be after him. What are the odds of it happening to That guy?
I’m just asking questions. Right now it seems wise to question everything.
“Black box?? Who would have access to it?”
Where did he park his “fairly” or “brand new” Mercedes C250 when not in LA? He was still a resident of NYC, per his obit.

Isn’t that the truth? Circumstances and events I couldn’t have imagined not so long ago are now commonplace and I notice how it’s changed the way I think. I find now my first reaction to anything I hear from ANY government employed person is doubt and mistrust. I’m np longer just skeptical.
Agreed!
At least he didn’t fall down an elevator shaft ... onto a bunch of bullets! :O
Yes, diesel.
There is crashing and a fire starting and spreading.
Then there is the entire car in fireball size flames within SECONDS.
