The time for climate action is now
Los Angeles Times ^ | June 20, 2013 | Editorial

Early predictions made by climate scientists — back when much of the nation was still dubious about any kind of greenhouse effect and many denied it existed — are coming true even more quickly than expected.

...And that's worth remembering when President Obama releases his expected proposal for reducing the carbon footprint, which will almost surely include new restrictions for coal-burning plants, the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases. Adjusting to climate change will require clear thinking and significant investment, but if the nation sticks its collective head in the sand, it will find that sand covered by rising seas.

Just today, I saw an article claiming that May, 2013 was the third warmest May on record (or something to that effect). I was dumbfounded... what an odd article to run, after a winter that stayed way past its welcome this year.

[[BTW...what they really wanted was cap and trade where the whole economy changes through buying and selling carbon credits]]

Well i realize that that is what they ultimately wanted, however, too many democrtats were facign tough reelectiosn and were not willign to cut their own throats by votign for massive tax increases ie carbon tax/cap and trade- I think more than anything, this is what has stalled the whoel C&T deal- so, insted of coming out with the obvious C&T laws, they are quietly passing laws that amount ot ‘death by a thousand paper cuts’

[[Yes, Obama is issuing the orders piecemeal but a bill through congress would have been far worse.]]

I agree that initiually it woudl have been worse because it woudl have been all at once, however, the administration IS goign to get to pretty much ther full C&T agenda by piecemeling us to death- they may never get their desired ‘Carbon Tax/buy credits’ but htere will be similiar less ‘ominous’ sounding taxes and credits I beleive, it will just be named diffferently but the premise will be the same- Dear leader and ilk will not rest until he destroys everythign decent we stand for

Not only that, it would have irreversible. EO's aren't.

Don't be too sure. Obama always pounds his chest loudest when he's in trouble on the left (NSA scandal) to get his base back on board. Last time he got in trouble he promised again to close Guantanamo and that's gone nowhere.

I think he may do some small EO measures but his West VA, PA, and OH House members are going to be putting pressure on him not to do too much going into elections.

[[Not only that, it would have irreversible. EO’s aren’t.]]

i didn’t realize that- UI thought EO’s were permanent law- Thanks

[[Last time he got in trouble he promised again to close Guantanamo and that’s gone nowhere]]

Last I heard it wass ‘in progress’- have you heard he’s renegged on closing it? or isn’t goign foprward with it? I haven’t seen anyhtign to that effect, but I don’t follow the news too close really-

[[I think he may do some small EO measures but his West VA, PA, and OH House members are going to be putting pressure on him not to do too much going into elections.]]

Possibly, I sure hope so anyways- however, I said when he was first elected that he was goign to ram through a liberal immoral country destroying agenda, and they were goign to soak peopel for every last cent they could- and if he was goign to get another 4 years, the left knows it will be their ‘last ditch effort’ to screw this coutnry and bankrupt it stealing hte wealth from the rich and middle class- They know they’ve only got one last try at this before people finally wake up and hte party’s over— I honestly think they have removed their boxing gloves and have enterede a ‘no holds barred’ fighting mode- just like kkkuomo in NY has done- they feel the tiem is right to violater our rights and pass laws that will line htier pockets before them oney runs out-

I’ve said the first 4 years were terrible, but if he got elected for antoehr 4 years, it was goign to e hell on easrth as he unleashed unholy hell on this country-

We;ve seen him attackign constitution, church, Christians, businesses, conservatives, morals, ethics, etc etc etc- and I don’t think he is goign to stop- I think he will go all out knowing that htis was the last chance they’d have to get a piece of hte pie before it’s all gone-

I truly hope I’m wrong and that your scenario is right-

It's been five years now with no progress to show. They tried to get a prison in IL to house the prisoners but got an uproar over that. My suspicion is nothing will ever happen.

they have removed their boxing gloves and have enterede a ‘no holds barred’ fighting mode

I agree with you that they would go as far as they can but the truth is Obama doesn't have the skill to make it happen. The evidence is the gun control effort. They should have won that one because they had the political capital shortly after winning the election and had a MAJOR tragedy in CT to help their effort but even these things couldn't put them over the top. And I believe going forward Dems will be treading lightly because of elections.

Let's put it this way...I don't know if my scenario is right but I'm cautiously optimistic.
