With the “small” exception. of slavery. Ignore the sophistry of distinguishing between slavery and the expansion of slavery.

“We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by thier Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness...”

What part of “...all Men are created equal...” don’t you get?

A hundred and fifty years ago, the economy of part of the United States relied on slaves. Southerners tried to explain it away by claiming black slaves as “property”, like livestock - cattle, horses, and hogs. What they did was exploit human beings, keeping them in bondage, to enrich themselves.

This was a blatantly unconstitutional. Humans are not livestock. Not now, not ever.

Just so you know, my great-grandmother was Melungeon through her mother. She passed herself off as white, as many Melungeons had until the late 19th century. Her husband knew and hadn’t cared, until he wanted a divorce. She took her little boy and moved to California, where they could be free. That was in 1903.

If you’ve never heard the term ‘Melungeon’, I suggest you look it up on Wikipedia.
