Yeah... When I was assigned in Stuttgart, by the time I made it to Berlin, the wall had fallen, but I did get some chunks of it.

One of the more interesting trips I made was on summer of 1990, when I went to the first volksmarsch in East Germany. It was located in the village of Graefenau, near Erfurt. I crossed into the eastern zone and I felt like I’d traveled back through a time warp to 50 years prior. The infrastructure was similar in design, but delapidated.

Thanks,

Is it just me or were the logistics of even the existence of a West Berlin mind boggling ?

In addition to the politics and Military issues ?

As I said earlier, I think a lot of people think West Berlin was connected to the west.
