New Yorker reporter Ryan Lizza caused a bit of a stir in the conservative media world today in a report he filed for the New Yorker about the ongoing debate in the U.S. Senate over an immigration bill that is currently opposed by many conservatives. According to the piece, the so-called Gang of Eight see the role of Florida Republican Marco Rubio as being to neutralize conservative talk radio and to get opinion hosts on Fox News Channel to either talk up the legislation or at least not oppose it.
In their view, Rubio, who was initially touted by many conservatives nationally as their great hope even though he was regarded far more skeptically by Florida conservatives, has succeeded in his assignment.
Two Democrats in the group, New Yorks Chuck Schumer and New Jerseys Bob Menendez, flat-out stated as much to Lizza:
Menendez told me that Rubios role was to work over the conservative universe, particularly the conservative opinion-maker universe, in order to neutralize them and, in some cases, proselytize them. Schumer said, Hes the real deal. He is smart, he is substantive. He knows when to compromise and when to hold. And hes personable. An aide to Menendez said that if the Gang were a group of high-school students, Rubio would be the cool jock and the captain of the football team, with whom everyone wanted to hang out. Schumer often found himself mediating disputes between Rubio and McCain, who felt that Rubios public statements sometimes positioned him positively with conservatives at the expense of the Gang. McCain would call Schumer and fume, Look what Rubios doing!

You know it’s bad when Chuck Schumer starts praising you. Rubio’s a f***ing snake.
Suuure...and the baloney "neutralized" the meat slicer. What BULLSHIT!!
Paul Ryan is making an a$$ out of himself now on Levin.
I used to think he was relatively intelligent, but now it seems HE thinks we’re stupid.
(Ya think THIS administration would deport someone who didn’t “learn English”???!!!???)
The repukes are dropping like flies.
Marco Rubio, “the real deal,” according to Schumer. Oily, oily, oily. But Marco will be enjoying the cocktail parties, I’m sure.
See, now this is why its important for us to elect lesser evils because Dems are much worse. /s
And people wonder why I harp on this crap...
Vote Orubio. He’s clean and articulate.
LOL Glenn Beck is calling him Senator Dirtbag.
Rubio is close on the trail of an elusive, trickster. Following the path of the OrangeMan Charlie Crist.
“useful idiot Rubio”
He’s not a useful idiot. He’s a lefty - one of them. The only idiots are those that think he politically of the right.
And the idiots still saying we need to elect more like him to WIN!!!
Tell’em what they “WON!” Johnny...
Paul Ryan (on Levin) is so dense, he thinks Obama WANTS to grow the economy!!!!!!!! HA!!!
Putting Rubio aside for a moment...
McCain...I hate that SOB...almost as much as Obama...
At least Obama will look you in the eye...while he stabs you in the heart..McCain will slip the knife in your back...everytime..
It’s not too late for Limbaugh and Levin to go nuclear on Marco Rubio; but they ain’t doing are they. They must think they have no influence to effect the outcome and that they are better off being Marco’s friend.
But I can say for sure that Fox News sold out a long time ago at about the time that Uncle Rupert brought that guy on board us allies call Tokyo Rove.
LLS
Remember that after Pelosi took power, Rush admitted on air he, quote, “Carried the Republican’s water”
That is a cast in broadcast history fact. I agree with him on most all things...but I will forever filter his comments/positions through his own admission.
Rubio has sided with La Raza.
