No, I am not kidding. In the U.S. a jury would return a not guilty verdict because the state can't prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt. The burden of proof isn't what some judge thinks might have happened based on his or her reading of the evidence. The burden of proof is guilt beyond a reasonable doubt as found by 12 unanimous jurors.

It's a Lizzie Borden case. Do I think she did it? Yes. Could I say that beyond a reasonable doubt? No.
