Soon as they figure out how.

Most states are working on putting meters on private wells. It’s already that way in most of the NE.

What we’ve been telling people about smart meters for years now.

But...but...but weren't we just Luddites for not wanting these?

Not good for the elderly. This will lead to more deaths. Not that the fascists in government would care.

to help its 13,000 residents manage electricity costs, which are said to have risen steadily there in the past three years.

What are the demographics of South Sioux City? Their IQ seems to be substantially sub-normal.

Apparently.

And we were paranoid to think they might be saving our electricity usage information for later data mining. Perish the thought!

I think that was actually Loral.

I guess I remembered that that particular division of Loral was bought from Honeywell.

But you are correct, it was Loral.

(But Honeywell will continue to stick in my mind...)

When Zero became Resident, he said our thermostats should NOT be set as high as 72. When it was discovered that he had the White Hut set much higher, the excuse was that he was from Hawaii and needed more heat. He hadn’t lived in Hawaii for years, so how many years does it take to acclimate to a colder area?

I’m from the government and we’re here to - help its 13,000 residents.

And when it’s later discovered that these thermostats have a built-in listening device, then what?

Tin foil? I've read where people are insulating around them for some reason. They're building some kind of thick, insulated box around them inside their homes.

Honeywell, BTW, has a camera lens no bigger than a flea that has mutable "eyes". It views everything like the eye of a fly. I know that's a fact, because I worked on the project that developed them decades ago.

What’s next, government controlled flushers for your toilets?

I think Michelle Obama is working to get control of that issue a little bit further up stream

Will it work with my wood burning stove?

Gas, coal or oil? Oh wait, I guess none of those would create a brown out or blackout.

If the ‘city’ is going to ‘set’ our thermostats, then the ‘city’ should pay the utility bills.

If we’re going COMMIE, let’s go all the way.

“”Honeywell” bribed Bill Clinton for a retroactive waiver after they told the Chicoms how to fix their rocket program problems so as to better target the US.”

I think that was Hughes and Loral, not Honeywell.

On the horizion will be water meters that shut you down after so many gallons of usage.

Already done in many cities.

And a balloon payment to return service.

Been that way before the 'wireless' meters.

Interesting link....

"Is Nest, like Hal, also watching what you do? You bet. I found this on their privacy page:
“We collect data from several sensors built into the Nest Learning Thermostat. These sensors register things like the current temperature, humidity, and ambient light in the room. They can also sense whether something in the room is moving. We also store PII about your use of the product, including sensor data and your inputs from mobile and other devices on our cloud servers.” PII is the abbreviation of personally identifiable information.
So, while Nest is managing the temperature, it is also keeping tabs of your movement and collecting various other bits of information about your home and sends that back to a central server."
