Ron Paul: Edward Snowden a Hero
USNews.com ^ | June 11, 2013 | Kenneth T. Walsh

Posted on 06/11/2013 2:49:49 PM PDT by Colonel Kangaroo

Ron Paul, a lion of the libertarian movement, is roaring again. He is praising Edward Snowden, the admitted leaker of information about a vast U.S. government surveillance program that is generating headlines around the world.

"We should be thankful for individuals like Edward Snowden and [investigative reporter] Glenn Greenwald, who see injustice being carried out by their own government and speak out, despite the risk," Paul said in remarks posted on campaignforliberty.org, the website of an advocacy group that Paul leads.

"They have done a great service to the American people by exposing the truth about what our government is doing in secret."

Others express a harshly negative view of Snowden, the central figure in the ongoing leaks case who has been condemned for jeopardizing national security.

That’s what Snowden bought with his $250 donation.

Snowden a hero who takes refuge in China and is offered asylum by Russia?

I really doubt it.

I see people whining that Snowden will give our secrets to China but I wonder how many of his coworkers are Chinese nationals anyway?

who has been condemned for jeopardizing national security.

Protecting the Consitution is the most sacred form of maintaining national security!!!

Snowden did a service that may have a high personal price for him.

Amen. We're being told that everyone knew about it; it's no big deal. If that's the case, then why is the whistle-blower a traitor?

And do you notice the pattern here? Instead of going after statistically-likely suspects [Muslims?], they turn all of us into suspects. It's the same MO as the TSA where grannies, cripples, and babies are all under suspicion.

It has to end.

It's not like the Chinese aren't listing anyway.

Remember that story from a week or so ago about them hacked into the U.S. Military software.

Now tell me they can't crack the NSA's network too.

What was that 4th amendment again and when was it repealed?

The Government has been acting in a lawless manner. The defiance of their lawlessness makes the trespass of their unlawful action lawful.

I agree. If Snowden is releasing intelligence data, isn't he committing treason?

You would have to be a moron to believe we have national secrets these days. Just look at the International Crisis group board of trustees.

http://www.crisisgroup.org/en/about/board.aspx

Thomas R. Pickering Louise Arbour George Soros Kofi Annan Wesley Clark Javier Solana Sandy Berger and many more.

The senior advisory group is just as bad.

Something is very wrong here
This guy, KNOWS, that the gov can find him ANYWHERE
ANYTIME
All he has to do is speak into a phone, dial a number, log on to a computer
TO ANYONE he knows, and you can be sure THEY are flagged right now from all his previous calls and e-mails and whatever
And he goes and gives away the store???
I am sorry, this is NOT the action of a patior, this is the action of either a complete fool or a traitor
HE KNOWS that he can be found and yet he announces to the WORLD he did this???
Something stinks here
What ELSE did he reveal that we dont know about yet?
How in the world can someone with his access to materials be trusted to only reveal spying on phone records?
What else did he hand over to some foreign government in exchange for asylum??
Isn’t anyone else thinking this through??
I do NOT think th eman was a hero for what he did

Paul would have a fit during WW II with government rationing, internment, draft and the things government made us do. But then again there was a war on.

Yes, Snowden offered asylum by all the countries that hate the US.

And some are really thinking this guy's a hero. Sheesh.

"I see people whining that Snowden will give our secrets to China but I wonder how many of his coworkers are Chinese nationals anyway?"

I've been an executive in several huge "data" companies and most of the technical staff was from #1 India, #2 China, #3 USA - then a measurable contingency of Eastern Block and Middle Eastern countries. All it takes is 1 well placed person.

I think this young man did a major service in waking up the zombie masses who live in a digital world but have no idea how aggressive the statists are in gaining total control over ideas.
