A charter school in Hartford was placed in a lock-in after a power outage near the building Monday afternoon.
Classes continued as normal at the Jumoke Academy at Milner School on Vine Street after the lock-in, however access in and out of the building was "limited," according to a spokesman for Hartford Public Schools.
The lock-in is expected to continue until power is restored or when the students are dismissed at 4 p.m.
According to the Connecticut Light & Power website, there are 154 customers currently without power.
I have hated the lock-in since they started it. Trying to justify it by saying it is for the safety of the children is crap.
Security regulations are beyond absurd. Control is complete. How was there a realistic thread here.
In middle school I remember a power outage near the end of the day. At that time the school was kind of run down and only had a those battery powered lights. Not nearly enough to meet code. Guess what, we we told to be careful on the stairs and that was it. No one got hurt. In HS a bad storm came thru and knocked out power. The school had a generator and for several hours we survived in slightly darkened hallways. Again, no one got hurt.
Where do gooder liberal parents send their kids to get beat up by the majority of enrollment.
