Syrian civil war is a fight between Sunnis on one side fighting Shiites and Alawites on the other. The Christians are very fearful of the Sunnis but are also frightened of the Shiites. Maybe John McCain , if he is done with his photo ops, can explain why American treasure and blood should be involved in this civil war. Whoever wins will hate the United States.
That might be the beauty of Islam; they can all accuse each other of being of Satan, and nobody is ever wrong ..... at least not on that point.

No, but it does seem to be setting the stage for an eventual confrontation between Iran and the forces of jihadic fundamentalism, which, if they keep on the roll they are on, should lead to the resurrection of the “Caliphate” in less than 10 years...

Muslims are consumed by hate for everyone, including themselves. That's why "martyrdom" is so palatable.
