The dead shoplifter was Joe Harris, age 31.
The shooting took place on Chicago's South Side.
I checked 12 Google links.
All 12 published a photo of the store owner.
But none of them published a photo of Joe Harris.
I wonder why?
My guess is that he was Amish?
Frankly, now that you bring it up, I care more that someone blew a hole in Joe Harris over a can of beer that would cost a couple of bucks in today's money.
Second degree murder is what it is, and there's no statute of limitations.
Put the Jordanian dude on trial, and I don't care what he looks like either.
I’m not sure stealing a can of beer should be a death penalty offense. Not a lot of sympathy for the store owner.
The South Side of Chicago in 1979 was a high crime, heavily Black neighborhood.
The MSM is selling a standard “White Property Owner” versus “Poor Black Dude” anti-gun theme.
My guess - the only known picture of Joe Harris is a police booking photo of a vicious looking Black guy.
The way the story is written, I agree. But I’d like a few more details. Did he go after the thief in order to shoot him, or did he just want to confront him and the guy got aggressive? Etc...
Based just on this story, I don’t feel like I know what really happened. Though running away doesn’t help the store owner’s case, whatever it may be.
The owner claimed self-defense and was released on bond.

Re: “Running away doesnt help the store owners case.”
Based on the Trayvon Martin case, sticking around and giving your full cooperation to the Police doesn't help much, either.
Exactly. I could see pinning the guy down until the cops get there but shooting someone over a can of beer is sick.
Released for 30 years on bond?
Really? Gee...
"The MSM is selling a standard White Property Owner versus Poor Black Dude anti-gun theme."
And how is this surprising?
"My guess - the only known picture of Joe Harris is a police booking photo of a vicious looking Black guy.
So being a "vicious looking black guy" is a good reason for being shot? Or is it being a "vicious looking black guy with a stolen can of beer" that does it?
Joe Harris felt the same way.
I'm sure he'd been ripping off store owners and weaker and older people all his life. He never figgered he'd run up against a righteous dude who would stick up to him. Sucks to be Joe Harris, but it was just a matter of time. If this guy hadn't wasted him, some other righteous cat would have.
