When the tires on their Dodge Caravan had worn so thin that the steel belts were showing through, Don and Florence Cherry couldn't afford to buy a new set.

You can't fix stupid. When did they start thinking about replacing their tires? What else did they buy during the period that they should have been thinking "tires"?

That business finds a way to offer more choices (including bad ones) should be a surpise.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that tires weren't the first consumable that the Cherrys rented or paid high interest rates for, instead of planning to buy outright.

This is a story about people who can't handle their money, not about rental tires.

We're talking about the same people who patronize those places where you can get quick cash by putting up the title to your car.
