In his case, the emphasis is on race.

Booker is a lib, but he seems to be far saner than Lautenberg, so we'll still be ahead if he wins. But it's not just Booker (who, interestingly enough, promised that he would finish out his term as Newark mayor). It looks like congresscritters Rush Holt, and Frank Pallone, as well as Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver may be collecting signatures for starts. This may turn into a free-for-all on the D side, and be well worth the price of the two elections just for the Summer amusement value. They have until Monday to get their 1000 signatures. It's not a high hurdle.
On the R side, there is Mayor Steve Lonegan, who is one of the most conservative politicians in the country and conservative enough that I would crawl to the polls over broken glass to vote for him. He probably won't win, but if we're gonna lose, we should do it memorably, not with some namby-pamby Democrat-lite candidate!
