New Bill: Annoy A Cop - Get Up To Four Years In Jail
Freedom Outpost ^ | June 6, 2013 | Tim Brown

I guess New York hasn’t brought the hammer down hard enough on its citizens, so a new bill is moving through the State legislature which would make it a crime to annoy a police officer. Just think of the far reaching consequences of this measure.

The bill, passed by the State Senate on Wednesday, makes it a felony to “harass, annoy, threaten or alarm” an on duty police officer.

WIVB reports,

A press release from the NYS Senate originally stated, “The bill (S.2402), sponsored by Senator Joe Griffo (R-C-I, Rome) would make it a felony to harass, annoy, or threaten a police officer while on duty.” However, as the bill is written, a person would be guilty of aggravated harassment of a police officer if he or she subjected that officer to physical contact with the intent to “harass, annoy, threaten or alarm” that officer.

The bill was sponsored by local Senators Pat Gallivan, George Maziarz and Michael Ranzenhofer, as well as Senator Joe Griffo (R) .

Anyone found guilty under the bill, should it become law, could face up to four years in prison.

The bill reads in part:

A PERSON IS GUILTY OF AGGRAVATED HARASSMENT OF A POLICE OFFICER OR PEACE OFFICER WHEN, WITH THE INTENT TO HARASS, ANNOY, THREATEN OR ALARM A PERSON WHOM HE OR SHE KNOWS OR REASONABLY SHOULD KNOW TO BE A POLICE OFFICER OR PEACE OFFICER ENGAGED IN THE COURSE OF PERFORMING HIS OR HER OFFICIAL DUTIES, HE OR SHE STRIKES, SHOVES, KICKS OR OTHERWISE SUBJECTS SUCH PERSON TO PHYSICAL CONTACT.

While there is some additional language in this bill that refers to true physical contact, it also throws in the little phrase “with the intent,” which really gets to the issue of what people are thinking rather than what they are doing.

So does using your cell phone to take video of them beating someone constitute ‘annoying’?

So who are the Master’s? The Former Civil Servants or the Citizens of the State?

The next stage I believe is the Concertina Wire on the borders and the Checkpoints allowing ‘special people’ to move freely and the rest to remain in their “Workers and Welfare Collector’s Paradise”.

One thing I will say about America: it’s great how each state can telegraph the intent of a particular party. If you want to see how life under a Democrat-controlled DC would be, look no further than NY, specifically the city, or Kalifornia.

Those of us in the south shake our heads, but we must be mindful that expats will flee from those states because they feel disenfranchised by emplace the same bullshit in other states, like my home of Florida, because they feel “it just wasn’t done right the first time.”

Idiots. Definition of insanity stuff here, folks.

I guess the NYPD realized that ‘resisting arrest’ was getting a little cliche as their standby charge for people they just don’t like. Now they can put them in prison for four years so they can better contemplate their proper place in society.

Contempt of cop carries a death sentence these days, and that is a long time before you see a judge or a jury.

The only way to make a bad situation worse is to add a cop. I try my best to not attract their attention. I don't speak to them, I don't make eye contact with them, and I would certainly never summon them to wherever I am.

NY cops are perpetually annoyed, sort of like how Muslims are always enraged and offended. The mere fact that you dare to breathe in their presence is annoying to many of them.

Just give the cops the right to lock up anyone they don’t like.

Just like behind the old Iron Curtain; they used to say,
“Show me the man and I’ll show you the paragraph.”

Goodbye Amerika

Is the “contact” requirement fulfilled if you happen to be in “contact” with the officer since your head is making repeated “contact” with his billy club?

The bill, passed by the State Senate on Wednesday, makes it a felony to “harass, annoy, threaten or alarm” an on duty police officer.

Conversation in the prison yard:

Prisoner #1: I got sentenced to 10 years for armed robbery.

Prisoner #2: Well, I got sentenced to 4 years for whistling an annoying tune near an on duty cop.

It doesn't even have to be a cop, there was a story on here a while back about a guy that was charged with a crime for "teasing" a police dog. We are going back to the old medieval times where they would lock you up for not averting your eyes or acting humble enough when the lord or his men passed by.

I wonder if a NY repub is worth a ‘rat almost anywhere else, and a NY dem would be considered a Marxist if not communist anywhere else. But, it’s a good point, and by no means are all Rs on the side of liberty.

As for the proposed law, I wonder how they think that comports with the First Amendment right to petition the government for redress of grievances. “You know, kid, I think you’re starting to annoy not only me but also this cop here with your complaints about so-called “oppression” here. Right, officer? Guards! Take him away!!”

I love the law and order types here who seem to believe that they and the people they care about are never going to get their turn on the business end of the thin blue line street gang. Every time they cheer a swat team doing an armed ambush for drugs I try to remind them that those animals are just sharpening their claws on the potheads. It’s not going to be schumer or biden coming for their guns or marching them out of their homes at gunpoint. It’s going to be that local cop that they spend so much time making excuses for being a thug.

Unfortunately these are the RINOs we have in NYS.

The JBTs know they are in for a lot of verbal abuse (I have no issue with protection of LEOs against physical abuse) which used to be protected speech. With the unconstitutional gun laws, cops are definitely not your friend.

The NYS Troopers would have been right at home in the SS. Even our local judge has expressed his concern about how the NYS Troopers have been acting lately.

Guess what, the JBTs will be the arbiter of what is threatening, or abusive speech.
