WASHINGTON (AP) - The National Security Agency has been collecting the telephone records of millions of U.S. customers of Verizon under a top secret court order, according to a report in Britain's Guardian newspaper.

The order was granted by the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court on April 25 and is good until July 19, the newspaper reported Wednesday. The order requires Verizon, one of the nation's largest telecommunications companies, on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the U.S. and between the U.S. and other countries.

I guess I'm wondering about why we (U.S.) have to wait on Britain to do OUR reporting for US.

Perhaps because Britain is several hours before the US and gets stories posted on-line before the US papers?

Why is it journalists from my country are having to uncover these things? It is crazy.

We need to start thinking how to tie Biden to one of these scandals so we can impeach both of them at the same time.

If I go down and raise hell at my Verizon store, will the word get back to corporate HQ? Any Verizon employee FReepers out there?

We warned them. Then we warned them again. And again...

It doesn’t matter which side enacts an expansion of the FedGov or for what reason. No matter how “necessary” or “noble” it appears at first.

This ALWAYS happens. These powers ALWAYS end up in the hands of your political Enemies.

To all those who excoriated folks like me over Bush’s expansion of Carter-era FISA court powers in the PATRIOT Act...

F*ck you with a rusty chainsaw for abetting this crap. You were WARNED.

I have assumed that anything said over the phone was plausibly intercepted and recorded since 1987. I have acted accordingly.

If you think your phone conversations cannot be intercepted at the whim of government agents, you are naive.

The only real question is whether those conversations can be used as evidence in a court of law.

When you are dealing with an administration that has shown a contempt for the rule of law, the above distinction becomes moot.

Yes and I was somewhat supportive until they tweaked it. Bush was a disaster but kerry and gore would have been too... even worse. We must fight the enemies we have right now and make certain History writes the truth about all of these people.

Now, we know why a former IRS director/chief thug visited the Outhouse for more than 150 times.

http://dailycaller.com/2013/05/29/irss-shulman-had-more-public-white-house-visits-than-any-cabinet-member/

After each trip, he probably walked away with a few high density data storage devices in his brief case, which helped the IRS to target Obozo’s political enemies daring to donate money to conservatives and Republicans.

Obozo’s National Security bozo probably handed the storage devices to the IRS chief thug when Obozo wasn’t there.

This is want we know about now: “So, NDAA, Patriot act, IRS targeting, TSA groping, Surveillance Drones, Spying on the press, webs of cameras, bio-metric databases, facial recognition, militarization of local law enforcement, attacks on 2nd amendment...now electronic surveillance on American citizens, massive voter fraud, gubbamint clampdown on transparency.”

What we don’t know about, is probably worse and scarier for us.

Perhaps because Britain is several hours before the US and gets stories posted on-line before the US papers?

Where are the American reporters who SHOULD have been on this?

Almost all the British stories I’ve seen have been picked up from US MSM sources.

I don’t agree with any of those things you mentioned. The government or police are not your friends.

Well a number of us think the way you do, but there was a loudmouthed FR contingent who thought increasing govt's powers under Bush and the GOP was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Fools.

Only because that information isn't stored.

Not for the lack of trying. The NSA is working on it as fast as they can:
