OWINGS, MD -- The father of a middle schooler in Calvert County, Md. says his 11-year-old son was suspended for 10 days for merely talking about guns on the bus ride home.
Bruce Henkelman of Huntingtown says his son, a sixth grader at Northern Middle School in Owings, was talking with friends about the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre when the bus driver hauled him back to school to be questioned by the principal, Darrel Prioleau.
"The principal told me that with what happened at Sandy Hook if you say the word 'gun' in my school you are going to get suspended for 10 days," Henkelman said in an interview with WMAL.com.
So what did the boy say? According to his father, he neither threatened nor bullied anyone.
"He said, I wish I had a gun to protect everyone. He wanted to defeat the bad guys. That's the context of what he said," Henkelman said. "He wanted to be the hero."

I ment 250 a pay period
The father was a fool to fill out a four page questionnaire just because some Nazi ahole masquerading as a sheriff’s deputy told him to do so.
The dad should have used that “questionnaire” for toilet paper, crammed it into the deputy’s swarmy face, and called his attorney.
Sorry if the truth hurts.
The Calvert schools were bad news and St Marys’ worse. Blatant discrimination and violation of State and Federal laws and regulations. Call them on it and all hell breaks loose in terms of revenge upon your student. I say that as a parent who had that happen to them and won multiple complaints, one of which contributed to a principal leaving the district for an Eastern Shore teaching job “to have more time with his family”.
I did my time there like many others and moved on. Nothing particularly commendable or attractive there. It has changed mightily from when we first moved there, and that is a good thing. However the anti gun climate is such that I would rather accept orders to Fallon than Pax again.
I believe the term you were dancing around is “SMIB”
Can’t agree more....
The questionnaire would have been handed back with instructions to mail to my attorney....and Mr. LEO would have been politely shown the door...
There must be legitimate consequences for this kind of academic tyranny.
A derogatory term used by come downers meaning” Southern Maryland In Breds.”
Yes I am certain from your tone that you are familiar with it. Glad to see you found a new place to live. Hope it serves you better. I am always happy when people leave who do not want to be here to begin with. You see the fact that you did not want to be here makes your opinion biased. Glad you got out.
Pax River brought many jobs to Southern Maryland and Many things not so good, including people who do not want to be here.
Maryland of course is filled with Democrats, but we have a growing population of people who are wising up.
Thanks for the info. This is worthy of a thread of it’s own. Well done!
Is “come downers” really that different that SMIB? I think not.
We arrived in Lusby when NAVAIR did in late 90s and lived in the Ranch Club. The schools were the worst part of being there. I was amazed at how untouchable and in charge the educrats thought they were. They made comments to both parents and students about how us newcomers just did not understand. That started to change when some of us organized and starting forcing compliance to ADA and the like. I was in a meeting where a principal said to a group of parents that he ran the building his way and we had no business interfering by insisting the ADA be followed and his staff follow the law. It was that bad. When we helped get rid of a principal and multiple police complaints were filed against staff members they started taking our complaints more seriously, but I wonder how many kids got hurt in the interim.
Well at least we are both happy now.
Henkelman is in need of an ass kicking.
Hew appears to be revolting already!
I hope he answered all the questions with a "None of your business" response.
