I think the transformation came when we made God and Christ unacceptable concepts in the very institutions that made us great in the first place, viz. schools, government and the home. Even our mainline religions are making a mockery of faith. Embracing homosexuality as normal and elevating women to positions reserved for men, for example.

When people stray from truth, God will send them a lie that they might be damned in their unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:11, 12: And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

True enough, and sobering. This present world is the scene of a colossal spiritual clash between God and the rebel angels called demons. Men have to believe in something. That’s our spiritual structure. If it’s not God then it will be devils and as the scripture reminds us, will carry us to hell, a hell which as other scripture states was initially purposed only for the devils.
